Baymax
After alot of back and forth with the bank and the car dealership we were finally able to get a car here in Canda. Although even after all these calls and emails, neither the bank nor the car dealership were of any use to us financially so we had to rely on other forms of funding, which we were thankfully able to get and so we are now the proud owners of Baymax 🙂
This is the first time either of us have bought a car from a dealership and I have to say that EVERY SINGLE used car salesman stereotype is true and every one of them annoyed the shit out of me. Thankfully Joonas takes things in his stride so he could handle our dealership rep, JD, whereas I lost my cool with him pretty much in the first five minutes of our first meeting. What annoyed me the most was the superficial and downright fake praise we got for everything we mentioned.
’Your accent is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard’
’We would back your loan if it was ethical because we believe in you’
’Anyone should be lucky to fund people of your caliber’
… and it goes on and on …
And then the continuous insurances that they weren’t trying to rip us off or scam us, as someone who takes most things at face value your honesty starts to seem a little less than sincere if every other thing out of your mouth is you telling me you have my best interest at heart.
But nonetheless, we found ourselves a suitable car and have so far been very happy with it! As of yesterday, I can even drive him on my own! 🙂 We have now both officially become adult drivers in Ontario. For some reason Finland and Canada dont have a drivers license exchange program so we had to enter the three phase license program which is valid in Ontario. The first step is to apply for the G1 or Baby license.. to do this you need to pass a written test but have no previous driving experience. Once you get this step you can start to drive but along with alot of other restrictions you can only drive with a licensed driver in the front seat next to you. The next stage is then a G2 license which allows you a little bit more freedom but still has certain restrictions to it. And finally, after about 1.5 – 2 years of practising in your baby licenses you are eligible to take the road test for you G or adult license. Thankfully we were able to skip the G2 stage and go straight from G1 to G, and so now we no longer have any restrictions on our licenses and are free to drive when and where we want. Plus now Joonas doesnt have to take me to work in the morning so finally have some alone time on the commute to and from work! 😀
On the downside, we are in the most expensice car insurance region in the whole of Canada and premiums are through the roof! And by through the roof we’re talking about CAD$300 – 400/month. But getting by without a car here is not possible and so whatever the premium is, we’re paying it!
So without further ado, let me introduce Baymax. He is a pimped out Kia Rio with an openable sunroof, bluetooth setup and airconditioning!
