Kaikenlaista pientä hauskaa on ollut viime aikoina, ihan täällä Belgiassa. Päivät olen nyt kuluttanut välillä tosi tehokkaasti opiskellen, välillä ei ihan niin tehokkaasti. Alkaa kuitenkin tuntumaan, että lähtö lähestyy – erittäin sympaattisia ovat ihanat belgialaiset kaverini, jotka tuntuvat olevan eniten surullisia – he kun eivät itse ole lähdössä. Vaihtareille tämä on tietenkin aina ollu vain väliaikaista. Aikalailla kaksi kuukautta jäljellä – kuukausi niin kokeet ovat ohitse. Tarkka lähtöpäivä ei ole vielä aivan selvillä, mutta kokoajan päästään lähemmäs. Otin tänään jo virallisemman askeleen, kun katsoin mitä papereita tulee paluun tullessa olla – mutta vain katsoin! Nyt on vielä aikaa nauttia ja ihmetellä tätä elämää ulkomailla, vaikka paluu Suomeen ihastuttaa, odotuttaa, mutta myös kauhistuttaa. Silti jalka jo vipattaa uudelleen pois – olen tutkinut kaikenlaisia vaihtoehtoja harjoittelupaikoista maisteriohjelmiin ja uusiin koulutuksiin ulkomailta. Mutta ne saavat odottaa vielä, ensi vuosi on jo aika täynnä kaikenlaista projektia ja opintoja – jos sitä mielii kandiksi joskus valmistua. 

I’ve had lately all sort of small fun here in Belgium. Most days I’ve spent just studying, some days super efficiently, other ones not so… But I am starting to feel the end of Erasmus – specially my dear Belgians are so sweat and shocked that I’m leaving. After all, for all the exchange students this has always been just temporary, but they are just staying here. So two months left, in a month all the exams are almost done. Yesterday we did a list with my friend: things that need to be done during these last months! Today I took one more official step: I looked what papers do I need to get before I leave, but just looked! Now is still the time to enjoy this home-away-from-home, even though the thought of going back is fascinating, awaiting, but also terryfying. At the same time I’m already looking ways to get away again, some interships, master programs and different educations… But they have to wait a bit, next year is already full of all sort of fun and studying – if I would like to get the bachelor’s papers one day.

Sain ihanan Mäni vierailulle Gentiin jo melkein kuukausi sitten. Tehtiin perus kävelyt ja vain hegnailtiin, perinteitä noudattaen katsottiin Sinkkuelämää sarjan yksituotantokausi. Käytiin yhdessä museossa, jossa oli viimeistä päivää esillä historiallisten elokuvien puvustuksia ja lopusta löytyi rekillinen vaatteita ja pöydällinen hattuja leikittäväksi. Minkäs sille itselleen voi… Parasta ikinä oli se kymmenen minuuttia, mitä kehtasin pitää tuota mekkoa päällä<3 En tiedä oliko se aito sarjasta, mutta kovin Mrs. Hughes vibat sillä oli Dowton Abbeystä! Ihana rento viikonloppu parhaan kanssa <3 

My dear M came to visit Gent about a month ago. We went trough the basic city tour and just hanged out and most tradionally, watched one Sex and the city season. We visited also this one museum, where they had an exhibition of Historical movies and their costumes. In the end there was a high bar full of clothes and table full of hats to try on and to play with. Best of it was my ten minutes I had that dress on<3 I’m not absolutely sure if it was the very same from the series, but it looked a lot like Mrs. Hughes had in Downton Abbey! Lovely relaxed weekend with the best one <3 

Kaupunki on täynnä kukkia, niin kevään kuin Floraliën festivaalinkin takia. Sisäänpääsymaksu vain oli kovin suolainen myös opiskelijalle, niin jää virallinen käynti tekemättä. Festivaali on kolmessa paikassa ympäri Gentiä ja sen huomaa – turisteja on ihan kummallisissa paikoissa! Jopa yleensä vain opiskelijoiden kauttamat kuppilat ja kahvilat ovat yhtäkkiä täyttyneet myös turisteilla, kun yksi alueista on aivan siinä kulmilla. Myös kotimatka yliopistolta on yhtä kävelijöiden varomista. 

City is full of flower, because of spring, but also due to de Floraliën flover festival. The tickets were too expensive, so I’ll skip the actual exhibition, but the places are in three places around Ghent – and you’ll easily notice it! Tourists can be found such weird places, also usually only student’s bars are full of tourists, since one of the spots is near by it. Also you have to be really careful with pedestrians on the way home, they are everywhere! 

Päiväretki flaamilaiselle maaseudulle oli osa Low Countries Studies -kurssia. Käytiin paikoissa joilla on jotain historiallista merkitystä, mutta joissa ei tulisi muuten ikinä käytyä. Yllättäen perinteinen kangasteollisuus oli tärkeässä roolissa päivän aikana, samoin tuulimyllyt ja padot. Yllä nykyisen pienen kylän jäänne kaupunkiajoilta: kaupungintalo. 

Day trip to Flamish countryside was part of the Low Countries Studies -course. We visited places, which had historical importance, but where you would probably otherwise never end up to. Not so surprizingly traditional fabric industry had a huge role during the day, but also windmils and tides. The picture above is from a small village with something to remind of the good old times: the City Hall. 

Huristeltiin myös Belgiasta Hollantiin ihmettelemään toinen toisensa jälkeen vanhempia patoja sekä viimeisintä, jolta lopulta oli näkymä merelle. Alueen tasaisuus oli kyllä silmiinpistävää, suurinosa alueesta on kuitenkin ollut joskus merenpohjaa. 

We also went to the Nederlands side of the boarder to see old tides and the newest one, where we finally found the sea. The area was so flat, but it really used to be the bottom of the sea. 

Eräs ihana brassi myös päätti, että nyt ollaan rannalla, joten kengät pois! Kuuluisaksi taisi jäädä oma mainintani siitä, että ei tainnut tyyppi miettiä ratkaisuaan ihan loppuun asti….. Jalat olivat ”vähän” mutaiset ja ilma hyytävän kylmä! Onneksi jalat saatiin puhtaaksi ;) Muutenkin reissu oli täynnä vähän sieltä täältä todella mukavaa porukkaa! 

Our beloved Brazilian decided that we were on the beach, so time to take shoes off! More rememberable come to be my mention, how he didn’t think it trough…. His feet were ”a bit” muddy and it was super cold and windy. Luckily, we managed to get the feet clean ;) Also otherwise trip was full of nice people from all over! 

Jatkettin matkaa tuulimyllylle, johon päästiin sisään ihmettelemään. Meillä oli omat oppaat, paikan omistajat, jotka kertoivat meille miten paikka toimi ja mitä kaikkea tuulimyllyn omistajan kuuluu tietää ja tehdä. Oli tosi hienoa päästä sinne sisällä ja seurata itse, miten perinteinen tuulimylly on toiminut! Paikka oli myös optimaalinen kuvaamisen harjoittelulle: vaihtuvat pimeän ja valon erot pakottivat jatkuvasti säätämään kameran asetuksia. Mutta kuvista tuli aika siistejä! 

We continued the trip to the windmill and we actually got to visit also insides of it! The owners were there telling us stories and how it actually works, but also of all the problems maintaining a windmill. It was super cool to be able to visit insides of it and see how you can actually follow the idea of how it worked! It was also optimal place to train some shooting: the differences of light and dark were massive so you had to change the settings all the time. But I really like the pics! 

Toisella tuulimyllyn omistajista oli myös ehkä maailman siistein miniauto! Melkeen harmi, etten ottanut kuvaa, kun molemmat raavaat miehet ahtautuivat tähän tilaihmeeseen – se jos mikä näytti melko hulvattomalta! 

Kaikkea pientä kivaa on myös tulossa, ollaan muunmuassa menossa juhlimaan vappua Brysseliin: suomalaiset ovat ottaneet tavaksi lakittaa paikallisen pissaavan pojan -patsaan (Manneken pis)! Tämä on pakko nähdä, onneksi täältä löytyy aina seuraa, etenkin kun mainitsee sen skumpan. Ei enää harmita siis ihan niin paljoa, että missaan Suomen vapun – yllätyksekseni se on lähinnä suomalainen, ruotsalainen ja virolainen tapa ! 

The other owner of the windmill also owned the coolest minicar! It’s almost pitty that I don’t have a pic when both of the big guys fitted themselves inside that tiny car – it looked so funny! 

Also some nice and cool stuff is coming up, for example we’re going to go and celebrate Laborday’s eve to Brussels. Laborday is a massive student happening (but also for others) in Finland (and Sweden and Estonia). The Finnish tradition includes putting on our graduation hat to this one statue in the middel of Helsinki and there can be around 80 000 people looking it, but also picnic on actual Laborday. One of the best traditions if I might say! local finnish people have a tradition to put a our graduation hat to Manneken pis -statue! So this is something we HAVE TO see!
