Mitä jos yhdeksi päiväksi, voisit mennä ajassa taaksepäin. Minkä aikakauden valitsisit? Eläisitkö silti nykyhetkessä, vai menisitkö 1800-luvulle villin lännen aikaan, jolloin vallitsivat laittomat ja seikkailulliset olosuhteet. Vai menisitkö 1980-luvulle, jolloin popin kuninkaamme eli vielä. 

What if for one day, you could go back in time. Which era would you choose? Would you still live in the present, or would you go to the 1800s century in the wild west when unconventional and adventurous circumstances prevailed. Or would you go to the 1980s when our kind of pop was still living. 

Tänä vuonna täytän 30 ja olin päättänyt pitää mega suuret juhlat, jollaista kukaan ei ole aikaisemmin nähnyt. Teemaa miettiessä, kävin erilaisia vaihtoehtoja läpi. Kuitenkin lopulta päädyin 1920 lukuun. Miksi? No miksi ei! Sen ajan naiset olivat hohdokkaita ja upeita. He uskalsivat olla omia itsejään, välittämättä muiden mielipiteistä. He pukeutuivat lyhyihin hameisiin, kuuntelivat jazzmusiikkia ja rikkoivat sovinnaisena pidetyn käytöksen normeja. This year I’m turning 30, and I’ve decided to hold a big mega party that nobody has ever seen before. When discussing the theme, I went through various options. However, I finally ended up with 1920s theme. Why? Well why not! Women of that time were glamorous and gorgeous. They dared to be their self, ignoring the opinions of others. They dressed in short skirts, listened to jazz music, and broke the standards of behavior that were considered concise. The skirt hems shortened so much that by 1925, the hem was as high as 45-50 centimeters off the ground. A couple, three years later, the skirts went up to the knee height, which was pretty ferocious at that time. The girls of the 1920s used a lot of makeup compared to what was then considered acceptable, drank alcohol, smoked cigarettes which was placed in a cigarette holder. drove the car and otherwise denied the traditional norms. The most important thing at that time was that you were able to dance in your dress. 

Niinpä päädyin Gatsby teemaan. Ensimmäisen kerran kun näin kyseisen elokuvan, rakastuin siihen tyyliin. Nyt piti vain miettiä miten tuoda 1920 luku yhdeksi illaksi tänne. 1920 luvun oleelliset värit olivat musta, valkoinen, hopea ja kulta. Siitä se ajatus sitten lähti. Halusin pöytäkattauksen olevan näyttävä ja mieleenpainuva. Sillä halusin sen ”wow” efektin jokaisen vieraan silmissä, kun he astuivat tilaan. Siihen aikaan korkeat ja näyttävät pöytäkoristeet joissa olivat jätti suuria sulkia, olivat isona osana koristusta. Helmiäkin käytettiin muaalla kuin vain koristamassa naisen kaulaa. 

So I ended up with the Gatsby theme. The first time I saw that movie, I fell in love with that style. Now, I had to think how to bring the 1920s for one evenings. The essential colors of the 1920s were black, white, silver and gold. From there the thought started. I wanted the table decor to be spectacular and memorable. Because I wanted that ”wow” effect when the guests stepped into the room. At that time, high and showy table decorations with big feathers were part of the decor. The beads were used for other purposes than just decorating a woman’s neck. 

Pöydissä oli itse sprayjaamani ja glitteröidyt viinipullot, jota koristi kaunis pioni, sulkia ja helminauha. Valkomusta raidalliset kaitaliinat antoivat tunnetta pöytään. Näyttävät Gatsby pöytänumerot koristivat kauniisti pöydän päätyä. Kultasissa kehyksissä olivat hauskoja Gatsby elokuvasta tuttuja fraaseja. Pöydässä oli myös kirkkaat kynttilänjalat jonka päällä oli itsetehdyt suodatinpussi kukat. Jokaisen vieraan paikaa koristi kaunis ”aluslautasena” toimiva kultainen kakkupaperi, jonka päällä oli itse taiteiltu lautasliina smokki. Menun sijasta päätin kirjoittaa jokaiselle vieraalleni pienen tervehdyksen, unohtamatta ihania pieniä kiitos lahjoja. Kyseisessä tilassa oli oranssin väriset tuolit. Ja koska tunnetusti vihaan oranssia ja tämä olisi pilannut täysin ulkoilmeen, peitimme tuolit valkoisilla tuolihupuilla ja mustalla satiininauhalla et voilà, kattaus oli valmis. 

The tables were decorated with gold sprayd and glittered wine bottles, which was decorated with a beautiful peony flower, feathers and pearls. The black and white striped table runner gave a nice touch to the table. Showy Gatsby table numbers beautifully decorated the front of the table. There were funny phrases from the Gatsby movie in golden frames. The table also had bright candlesticks on top of which had self-made filter bag flowers. Because, we didn’t have under plates, I used a gold paper doily where we put a tuxedo napkin. Instead of putting the menu, I decided to write a small greeting to every one of my friends, not forgetting the wonderful little thank you gifts. The venue had orange chairs, and because I hate that color and this would have totally ruined the appearance, we covered the chairs with white chair hoods and black satin ribbon and voilà, the table setting was complete. 

Koska tietenkin ikäni oli suuressa osassa roolia, olihan minulla pakko olla ei yksi pari, mutta kaksi paria isoa folio palloa joissa kukoisti kaunis ikäni kaikille nähtäväksi. Sitten tietenkin oli oltava lahjapöytä, buffet pöytä sekä pöytä mistä sai hakea upeita rekvisiittoja kuvia varten. Varsinaista photo boothia meillä ei ollut, sillä tilassa oli mitä upein parveke alue, joka oli kerrassaan massiivinen. Ja koska minua oli siunattu lämmöllä ja auringolla, niin paras paikka ottaa kuvia oli tietenkin ulkona. 

And because my age was in a large part of the role, I had to have not one pair, but two pairs of big foil balloons where my beautiful age flourished for everyone to see. Then, of course, there was a gift table, a buffet table and a table where you could get great props for your pictures. We did not have an actual photo booth, because the venue had the most magnificent balcony area that was somewhat massive. And since I was blessed with heat and the sun, the best place to take pictures was of course outside. 

Vieraiden tullessa sisään, saivat he lasin kuohuviiniä, jonka kanssa he pääsivät kiertämään tilaa ja juttelemaan ihmisten kanssa, sillä välin kun odottelimme kaikkien tulevan. Kun vieraat olivat saapuneet, oli pääruuan aika. Pääruuaksi meillä oli ghanalaista jollof-riisiä ja kanaa. Salaattia, ruis nachoja sekä levitteitä. Jollof-riisi oli kaikkien aikojen hitti menestys. Ruoka juomaksi oli veden lisäksi, mohito booli ja fresita pohjainen booli. Kun pääruoka oli syöty, päästiin jälkiruuan pariin. Jälkiruoka buffet oli pullollaan erilaisia makeisia ruokia. Tarjolla oli erimakusia macaronseja, täytekakku, juustokakkuja, popcorneja, vaahtokarkkeja, sipsejä ja pienimuotoinen karkki buffet. Vieraat odottivat innolla, mutta kärsimättöminä jälkiruoka buffettia. Pienen puheen ja onnittelu laulun jälkeen, olimme valmiita syömään. Bon Appétit!

When guests arrived in, they got a glass of sparkling wine with which they could go look around and talk to people while we were waiting for everyone to arrive. When all the guests arrived, it was time for the main course. Our main course was Ghanaian jollof-rice and chicken. Salad, rye nachos and spreads. The jollof-rise was a hit of all time. We also had in addition to water, a mohito punch and a fresita based punch. When the main course had been eaten, we could start with dessert. The dessert buffet was packed with various kinds of sweets. There were some macarons, cake, cheese cakes, popcorn, marshmallows, potato ships and a small-sized candy buffet. The guests were looking forward to the dessert buffet. After a little speech and a congratulation song, we were ready to eat. Bon Appétit!

Ruuan jälkeen, oli kuvien otto aika ja tunnetusti tiedämme mitä se on kun yritämme ottaa isosta laumasta kuvia, mutta hyvin onnistuimme ja kuvista tuli onnistuneet. Tämän jälkeen oli tietenkin se tärkein ja oleellisin… Tanssiminen! Soitimme ruokaa syödessä 20-luvun musiikkia, mutta se ei enään riittänyt kun tanssi jalka alkoi vipattamaan, silloin astui afrobeat kehiin ja sai kaikki vieraat tanssimaan. Ilta oli menestys ja kaikki olivat panostaneet pukeutumiseen. En olisi voinut pyytää parempia juhlia saatikka parempia vieraita. 

After eating, it was time to take pictures and we all know what it is when we try to take pictures of bunch of people, but we did well and the pictures were successful. After that, it was time for the most important and essential … Dancing! We played 20th century music while eating, but it was no longer enough because we wanted to dance like no tomorrow, so we put some afrobeat and everybody was dancing. The evening was a success and everyone had invested in their clothes. I could not have asked for a better party or better guests.
