Rakkaimmat Duran Duran -joulumuistot

1. Jouluni ovat olleet usein DD-sävytteisiä. Lähes joka vuosi vuodesta 1999 lähtien sain jotain DD-aiheista lahjaksi. Mieleenpainuva muisto on ollut muun muassa Greatest Hits-vhs:n saaminen jouluna -99 ja myöhemmin joululomalla sen katselu ja hihittely. Tuli osa videoista ja niiden rohkeasta sisällöstä vähän yllätyksenä teinitytölle, hih 😀
2. Vuosi 2010. Asuin jo poissa kotoa, mutta tavan mukaisesti kokoonnuimme porukoille joulun viettoon. Joulu 2010 oli merkityksellinen jälkikäteen ajateltuna sen ollessa viimeinen joulu koko perheenä yhdessä. Aatto-aamu, muut menivät vielä kauppaan ja sain jäädä hääräämään taloon jouluruokavalmisteluja. Menin hetkeksi nettiin pienelle tauolle (tietysti Duran Duran-sivustojen päivitys kuului nettirutiineihini) ja tsädäm, mikä uutinen sielä odotti! Uusi DD-levy All You Need Is Now oli juuri julkaistu! Laitoin sen heti soimaan ja olin aivan haltioissani! Jouluvalmistelut sujuivatkin siis rytmikkäämmissä merkeissä loppupäivän 😀 Perhe kun tuli kotiin ostoksilta he tuumivat vain että jaahas Päivillä on omat bileet täällä, kun levy pauhasi täysillä, kuinkas muutenkaan 🥳
3. Astronaut-levyn julkaisu puolestaan väritti joulua 2004. Sain levyn lahjaksi ja kuuntelin sitä heti korvalapuissani paljon. Se oli hieman erilainen, mitä olin odottanut, mutta kiinnostava. Kävimme perinteen mukaisesti sitten joulun aikana myös sukulaisissa. Muistan, miten kotimatkalla lumisade ja tuuli olivat yltyneet. Korvalapuissani soi Astronaut-levyn vangitseva Still Breathing-kappale, kun katsoin auton ikkunasta voimistuvaa lumipyryä. Minusta tuuli oli jotenkin omituinen. Erilainen. Biisin kaihoisa tunnelma ja erikoisen tuntuinen lumisade sai minulle tunteen, että jotain pahaa tapahtuu. Seuraavana aamuna heräsimme järkyttävään uutiseen jättiläistsunamista, joka oli iskenyt Thaimaaseen kohtalokkain seurauksin.
4. Vuoden 1999 joulu ja koko joululoma oli yhtä Duran Duran-villitystä, joista Greatest Hits-videon jo mainitsinkin. Saman vuoden uuden vuoden aattona oli aika ottaa uusi vuosituhat vastaan ja muistan ikuisesti, mikä oli vuoden 2000 ensimmäinen biisi, jonka kuuntelin. No tietysti A View to A Kill. Suurimpia lempibiisejäni bändiltä.

My dearest Duran Duran Christmas memories

1. My Christmas are often full of Duran Duran. Since year 1999 I have almost every year been blessed with great Duran Duran related gifts I am still very grateful for. One of the funniest memories dates back to the Christmas 1999 when I got Duran Duran The Greatest Hits video compilation (VHS) as a present. The funny thing about it was that the videos were not known to me beforehand so I felt a bit confused and hilarious at the same time watching some of the videos, you know 😀
2. In the year of 2010 I already lived on my own but we still had back then a tradition to gather to our old family house altogether during the Christmas season. The Christmas 2010 was very special one when thinking backwards as it was the last one we all spent together. It was Christmas Eve in the morning when the other went to mall to finish the Christmas shopping and I stayed at the house to make the Christmas dinner, or part of it. Suddenly, I felt like a need of a little break and went to the Internet just to read news and stuff. Of course refreshing the DD homepage included even back then to my Internet routines and what a surprise was waiting for me when I got the pages refreshed! DD was just released their then brand new album All You Need is Now. Of course I needed to listen to the album immediately and how catchy and what a masterpiece the album was! I was stunned! When my family came back they just said that oh well, this was not a surprise that Päivi is having some DD party for once again!  😀🥳
3. The release of the Astronaut album was the thing in the Christmas 2004 (released on 10/2004) as I managed to receive the album as a Christmas present. I listened to it many times immediately on my walkman. The album was not like I had expected it to be but it immediately aroused my interest. As  used to, also during the Christmas 2004 we greeted our relatives, travelled to say hi. When driving home I remember listening the album’s ending tune Still Breathing which is a very captivating song in my opinion, and, I saw from the car window how the snow storm got stronger and stronger. I saw it as a very strange one, stronger than usually but there was also something new on it. It was different. The song and the snow storm both together made me thinking that there is something horrible going on. Next morning when we woke up the first thing we heard and read from everywhere was the news which sadly told us that really something more than horrible had happened. It was the Tsunami in Thailand.
4. As mentioned in the section 1 The Christmas 1999 and actually the whole winter season that time was nothing else that a pure Duran Duran mania for me 😀 So, when it was time for the Millenium 2000 you may guess the first song I listened on the first day on 2000, right? Yes, exactly! A view to A Kill! It is one of the most most most important song to me from DD!
