Keikkahaaveita osa 3 – Päivi

Keväällä 2011 olin tuttuun tapaan yliopiston kirjastossa lounastunnilla selailemassa nettiä. Kevät oli ollut taas opintojen kanssa melko raskas ja kovasti odottelin tietoa kesän keikoista piristykseksi. No, siskoni syntymäpäivänä 23.3.11 sain sellaisen: teki mieli kirkua onnesta, kun luin DD:n kotisivuilta uutisen Duran Duranin Suomen keikasta, joka olisi jo vajaa 3 kuukauden päästä, mutta viime hetkellä muistin, missä olin, joten kirkusin vain sisäisesti. Olin oikeastaan shokissa! Olinhan odottanut uutista jo yli 12 vuotta. Loppupäivän luennot menivät minulta kyllä sisältönsä osalta aika hyvin ohi, vaikka olin fyysisesti paikalla.

Muutaman päivän päästä DD ilmoitti vielä Tukholman keikasta ja se oli heti päivän selvää: otan ilon irti ja osallistun molempiin keikkoihin! Järjestelyt alkoivat heti. Varasin Tukholman laivaliput ja hotelliyöpymiset. Keikkaliput ostin heti molempiin keikkoihin, kun ne vain myyntiin tulivat. Seurasi kiivas keikkaodottelu. Mietin useana iltana, millaisen luukin eli kampauksen, meikin ja vaatteet luon keikoille kuunnellen duraneiden levyjä innosta puhkuen. Olin niin onnellinen!

Onnen kupla puhkesi vasta, kun oltiin jo alkukesän puolella. Simon oli sairastunut ja ääni oli hukassa. Keikkoja alkoi peruuntua ja viimeiseen asti toivoin, että Tukholman ja Suomen keikat toteutuisivat. Olin hyvin yllättynyt. Oli harvinaista duraneilta ylipäätään peruuttaa yhtä yksittäistä keikkaa saati sitten isompaa rypästä keikkoja. Tajusin kuitenkin nopeasti, että nyt on tosi kyseessä, jotain vakavaa on käynnissä ja ymmärsin kyllä, etteivät turhaan keikkoja peruuta, mutta harmitti kovasti.

Lopputulema oli tosiaan se, että kiertue peruuntui ja uudet keikkapäivät luvattiin ilmoittaa, mutta niitä ei koskaan tullut. Onneksi Simonin ääni tuli takaisin ja paraantui täysin lopulta.

Dreaming of concerts Part 3 – by Päivi

It was spring 2011. As used to I was spending my lunch break in the University’s library searcing for info for the forthcoming concerts in our country. I really needed something to cheer me up after though spring in the University with lot of work. It was my sister’s birthday 23 March when I read it from the Duran Duran’s official website: the band will be playing in Helsinki, Finland in less than three months! I was like oh my god and I wanted to scream but of course I didn’t as I was at least aware where I was. But that was all, I was so shocked for the news that I could not concentrate on the rest of the lectures during that day. Come on, I had waited for the news for over 12 years!

After a couple of days DD revealed even a concert in Stockholm, Sweden and it was immediately clear to me: I would attend to the both concerts, Helsinki and Stockholm! I booked hotel and a trip to Stockholm and bought the concert tickets for both of the concerts as soon as the tickets went on sale. While waiting for the concerts I was eagerly planning for what to wear innconcerts, how to put my hair and inventing the make up. I was so excited!
It was not until early summer when we reveived sad news. The concerts were cancelled due to Simon’s illness. He had lost his voice. First, only couple of gigs were cancelled and I still had hope for ”my concerts” to come true but no. Soon I realised that the concerts in Helsinki and in Stockholm were cancelled. It was something I vould not expect! It is so rare for Duran Duran to cancel concerts that it felt like a bad dream which could not be true. But it was. I was also worried about Simon whether his voice would come back and luckily it did in the end. New dates for cancelled gigs were promised but never happened.

As you can see, it has been unbelieveable rocky road for me to see the band live in concert. In the next and the final part of this story you will find out whether  or not I saw the band live in the end.
