Lapsuuden idolille!
Niin tyylikäs! Niin cool! Niin androgyyni! Niin boheemi! Niin älykäs ja inspiroiva niinkuin Nick Rhodes! Toista saa hakea! Moni innostus ja ihailu ja ajatus muuttuu tai katoaa teinivuosista aikuisikään niin monilla muilla kuin meikäläisellä, mutta äsken listatut ajatukset Nickistä eivät ole minulta kadonneet vuosienkaan saatossa.
Kun yli 20 vuotta sitten löysin 11-vuotiaana Duranit, samaistuin Nickiin hyvin nopeasti. Hän on syy siihen, miksi valitsin instrumentikseni aikoinaan kiipparit. Nickin tyyli värittää musiikki syntetisaattoreilla lumosi minut heti: visionäärisyys, halu uudistua ja uudistaa ja se, miten se on Nickillä säilynyt vuosikymmenet kiehtoo minua eniten. Omina bändiaikoinani omaksuin Nickin tyylin sävyttää biisejä synilla, tästä esim. Spotifyssa esimerkki (Envoi – Into The Known).

To my childhood hero Nick!
So stylish! So cool! So androgyn! So bohemian! So intelligent and inspiring as Nick is, it is hard to find anyone like him! Many crazines of teenage days vanish away as the years go by but my thoughts about Nick I just listed has not changed.
When for over 20 years ago when I found Duran Duran as a child I some kind of identified with Nick Rhodes almost immediately. He is the only reason I chose to play synths in bands back in the day. I loved the way Nick coloured the DD songs with synths. It was not complicated playing but it was a great colouring done with certain wisdom and visionarity. He certainly had his own way of doing it and still has – which I appreciate very much. During my band playing years I adopted the Nick’s style of colouring the songs with synths – this can be heard in the Envoi’s song Into The Know I have cowritten with the Envoi guys. The song can be checked out from Spotify.
Thank you Nick for all the inspiration you have given to us and please accept my delayed Birthday wishes!
