Five Years – Duran Duran 1/2021 – Päivi
Kulunut viikonloppu oli mahtava vuoden avaus Duran Duranille! David Bowien pianisti Mike Garsonin Bowien muistolle järjestämä online-tapahtuma keräsi eturivin artistit (mukana Duran Duran) yhteen ja jokainen esitti oman tulkintansa Bowien ikivihreimmistä kappaleista.
Blogin lukijat hoi! Näittekö Duran Duranin esiintymisen? Heidän valintansa oli Ziggy Stardust -levyn avausraita ”Five Years”. Kuulemme mielelläsi ajatuksesi vedosta. Kiitos jo etukäteen kommenteista!
Esiintyminen oli minusta kaunis, elegantti ja tyylikäs, hyvin DD-tyylinen siis. Sovitus toi mieleeni vuoden 1995 Duran-coverin Lou Reedin klassikosta ”Perfect Day”, joka onkin mielestäni joka tavalla onnistunein DD:n coverversio koskaan ja samalla hienoin versio, mitä kappaleesta on tehty, ja niitä riittää. Mitä enemmän katsoin ja kuuntelin DD:n ”Five Years” -versiota, sitä enemmän koko kappale ja erityisesti tämä DD:n versio kasvoi mielessäni, mikä on hyvä merkki, merkki mestariteoksesta, loistavaa työtä Duran Duran!
Odotamme kovin Maijun kanssa lisää Duran-aiheisia asioita alkaneelle vuodelle. Erityisesti odotamme uutta Duran Duran -levyä, jonka pitäisi tulla tänä vuonna ulos – emmekä suinkaan ole yksin asian kanssa!
Oikein Duranrikasta uutta vuotta myös minun puolestani kaikille Duran-faneille ja loistavaa 40-vuotisjuhlavuotta Duran Duranille!
Five Years, Duran Duran and Bowie celebration 8th-10th of Jan 2021 (translation by Päivi)
Last weekend was a great opening for new Duran Duran year 2021! To celebrate Bowie’s 74th birthday and to memoir for his sad passing for five years ago Bowie’s old pianist Mike Garson invited some front-row artists including Duran Duran of course to collaborate and play online some David Bowie classic songs.

To me, the performance was beautiful and also very elegant and stylish, very Duran Duran -stylish so to say. The arrangement of the song reminded me of their cover version of Lou Reed’s Perfect Day from the band’s 1995’s Thank You era. Perfect Day is actually my favourite cover by the band. I think that the more I watched and listened to this Five Years -version by Duran Duran, the more the whole song and especially this version grew up in my mind and this is always a good sign and a sign of a real masterpiece, well done guys!
We are looking forward for more Duran Duran-related things to follow this year, especially the new album which hopefully will be released soon! We cannot wait to hear it and see it and feel it and we know we are not the only ones!
