Keikkahaaveita By Päivi – Osa 1
Syksy 2000. Modeeminetti. Se oli ainoa tie ulkomaailmaan pienestä maalaiskylästä pienelle esi-teini-ikäiselle tytölle. Oli muutama vartti aika illasta nettiaikaa. Haaveilin keikoista. Varsinkin tietyn bändin. Unelmoin, että jonain päivänä pääsisin myös itse soittamaan maailmalle, mutta jos nyt ensiksi näkisi muutaman suosikkibändin livenä. Joka kerta, kun kiertue julkaistiin nettiin, sain tuntea suurta pettymystä. Ei taaskaan Suomea listalla. Sitten Duran Duran julkaisi uusimman albuminsa Pop Trashin tiimoilta kiertueen. Hirveä pettymys, pelkkää jenkkilää. Toisaalta hirveän tyypillistä. Jatkoin kuitenkin sivuston seuraamista, sillä uusia päivämääriä näytti tulevan listalle jatkuvasti ja sitten tsädäm! Yhtäkkiä kaikkien jenkkikeikkojen keskelle oli ilmestynyt Viro! Mikä kangastus! Samalla oli tullut Venäjään keikkoja. Puhuin tästä Viron keikasta kyllästymiseen asti kotiporukoille ja lopulta äitini totesi: “Kyllä sun täytyy nähdä ne livenä, kun puhut niistä joka päivä!” Äidit ovat niin viisaita! <3
Olin vasta 13-vuotias enkä siksi päässyt yksin matkustamaan. Äitini alkoi järjestää meille matkaa. Hotellit ja laivamatkat ja kaikki olivat vain yhden klikkauksen päässä, mutta sitten törmättiin odottamattomaan karikkoon: keikkalipunhankinta. Turun Sanomissa mainostettiin vain samoihin aikoihin Virossa pidettävää Elton Johnin keikkaa ja miten suomalaiset matkatoimistot järjestävät Eltonin keikalle pakettimatkoja sisältäen lipun. Äitini soitti vielä matkatoimistoon, josko voisivat järjestää Duran Duran -matkan tai vaikka lipun keikalle, mutta ei. Lopulta meille jäi vain kaksi vaihtoehtoa: joko luovutamme tai sitten jätämme lipunoston ovelle. Pohdimme pitkään valintaa äitini kanssa ja lopulta tulimme siihen tulokseen, että emme voi ottaa sitä riskiä, että keikalle ei sitten pääsisikään. Tuohon aikaan Viron matkat eivät kuitenkaan olleet mitään ihan älyttömän halpoja eikä se ollut vielä tuolloin niin turvallinenkaan maa matkustaa.
Olin tietysti murtunut siitä, etten päässyt keikalle, mutta samalla otettu siitä, millaisella tarmolla äitini oli asiaa selvittänyt. Äitini sanoi, että kyllä sinä vielä ne livenä näet. Seuraavissa jatko-osissa selviää, miten kävi…

Autumn 2000. For a little teenage girl from a rural village the internet was the only way to reach the world. We just got some minutes in evenings to spend in the internet and I knew very well how to spend it. I was dreaming of concerts. Particularly, I was looking forward seeing live one band called Duran Duran (surprise, huh?). I followed closely the band’s tour page. Every time they released a tour I was disappointed: no Finland included!
Then the band released a new tour to celebrate their then newest release Pop Trash. What a disappointment the tour list was again for a Finnish girl: all the gigs were in USA, again! However, I soon noticed that they kept updating the tour list and refreshed the page whenever I got a chance to use the internet. One day I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Tallinn, Estonia in the list! I was like I got to go there, it is so near to Finland. After I had talked about the concert every day and every week to my family members my mother said: ”I think we have to arrange so that you can see the guys!”

I was only 13-years old back then and I could not travel there by myself. My mother arranged everything except the tickets as it showed to be impossible to buy them in beforehand back then. She tried everything, called to travel agencies and so on but no, no-one was able to help us. Finally, we had to decide on two options: wether we should give up or wish the best and buy the tickets from the door of the concert venue.
Finally, we realised that we weren’t ready for to travel all the way to Tallinn to realise that we won’t necessarily get the tickets. It was not so cheap to travel there back then and not so safe either. Of course I was devastated not to be able to attend the gig but I was so grateful for my mother who did everything to make my big dream real!
My wise mother said to me that don’t worry, you will have another chance. In the following parts it will be revealed if my mother was right or not…
