Yllätysjoululahja – By Maiju

Olen huomannut yhden seikan; mitä vanhemmaksi tulet, sen vähemmän saat lahjoja. Tosin hirveästi en toiveita ole koskaan esittänyt. En koskaan ole osannut sanoa, mitä tarvitsisin tai haluaisin. Näin ollen jokainen joulu on siis ollut täynnä yllätyksiä.

Vuotta en muista, elettiin 90-lukua. Joulu lähestyi taas ja niin myös ihmisten lahjojen ostaminen. Nuorin siskoni kysyi minulta, olisiko mitään, mitä haluaisin. Mietin hetken ja mutisin jotain Duran Duranista ja unohdin autuaasti asian.

Aatto saapui ja kulki suurin piirtein sama kaava kuin niin monena vuonna aiemmin. Hautausmaalla käynnin, saunan ja ruokailun jälkeen sitten lahjojen jakoon olohuoneeseen. Siellä sitten istuttiin ja jaettiin lahjoja joulukuusen alta. Availin paketteja, pyjama, pörrösukat, suklaata ja sitten litteä kova paketti, sen olin jättänyt viimeiseksi. Siellä oli CD-levy, Duran Duranin Gratest -kokoelma.

Kiitin nuorinta siskoani kovasti lahjasta. Heti kun oli mahdollista vetäydyin omiin oloihini CD:n ja suklaan kanssa. Otin kannettavan CD-soittimeni ja laitoin levyn pyörimään. Kappaleet olivat tuttuja paitsi neljä kappaletta, joita en mielestäni ollut kuullut. Fani, jolle jokin oli uutta vähän ehkä myöhässä…😉

I have noticed one thing: the older you get the less you receive presents at Christmas. Alas, I have not either asked for any presents. For me it has always been hard to say what would I need or want as a present. This means that my Christmas has always been full of surprises.

I remember one December in 90s when the Christmas was coming and my sister asked me what would I like to have as a present. I finally mentioned something about Duran Duran and forgot it immediately. When the Christmas Eve came we finally got the presents after the same tradition we always had: grave yard visit, sauna and the Christmas dinner. After opening all the other presents, it was time to open the one I had left as the last one. It was different than the others as it was flat and hard.

From the final present, to my big astonishment and surprise, Greatest Hits album by Duran Duran showed up!

I was so happy and was so thankful to my dear sister for this special gift. As soon as possible, I had my own moment to be alone with my Christmas chocolate and of course the CD album I had just got. I started to listen to the album. There was only four songs I had not heard earlier. Perhaps, it was a bit late to find more songs from DD back then I had not heard before but better late than never, right? 😉

Tänään on uusikuu maanantaina eli New Moon On Monday. Vuonna 1983 ilmestyi Duran Duranin Seven And The Ragged Tiger-levy. Kyseisen levyn yksi singlejulkaisuista on New Moon On Monday. Kappaleessa on hieno musiikkivideo ja videosta on olemassa myös 15-minuttinen teatteriversio.

Tämän vuotinen uusikuu on erityinen siksi, että sen aikana Etelä-Amerikassa on myös auringon pimennys. Tämän tapahtuman vaikutus kestää aina ensi vuoden kesäkuun loppuun asti. Tämä tiedoksi niille, jotka ovat astrologiasta kiinnostuneita.

New Moon On Monday on minulle rakas kappale ollut aina. Se on ruokkinut erilaisten symbolien ja sanoitusten kautta omaa mielikuvitustani: ”Clues that you leave behind” eli vihjeet, jota jätät taaksesi/löydettäväksi sekä musiikkivideolla ja singlen kansitaiteessa vilahtavat symbolit. Yksi symboleista on jopa ikuistettuna omaan nahkaani…Yhdessä vanhassa radiohaastattelussani (suora lähetys) mainitsen kappaleen myös ja se soitettiin silloin. Vuosi oli 2008.

It’s a New Moon On Monday today – for real! Seven and The Ragged Tiger album by Duran Duran was released in the year 1983. One of the hit singles of the album was called New Moon On Monday which has also a great music video – actually there are at least two versions of the video, the shorter and the longer version which was very trendy for the music videos of that era. 

The new moon which will be seen this year is very special because during the new moon there is solar eclipse in the South America. It will have an effect on everything until the end of the June 2021. This is for the people like us who are interested in astrology as well.

New Moon on Monday has always been a very dear song to me. It has fed my imagination through all the symbols and lyrics: ’Clues that you leave behind’ and the symbols existing in the single’s sleeve art. I have even a tattoo on my skin of one of those symbols! In an old Finnish radio interview from the year 2008 I also mentioned the song and the song was also played then in the same radio show.
