David Beckham steals the show as he picks up humanitarian award

Becks and his babes! Dapper David Beckham steals the show as he picks up humanitarian award beside glamorous Mariah Carey, Selena Gomez and Nicole Kidman at star-studded UNICEF Ball

David Beckham was supported by a bevy of beauties at the 6th Biennial UNICEF Ball in Beverly Hills on Tuesday.

Selena Gomez, Mariah Carey, Nicole Kidman and Heidi Klum were among a host of sultry stars dazzling on the red carpet at the lavish Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel, and helping to raise over $2.5 million for the charity’s lifesaving programs.

David was being honoured with the charity’s Humanitarian Leadership Award during the ceremony, for his work helping children through his Seven Foundation.

The 40-year-old football star looked very handsome as he arrived at the bash, sporting a classic black tuxedo and bow tie; almost stealing the limelight from his glamorous companions.

Sir Elton John, an old friend of the famous British footballer, presented the award to Beckham thanks to the father-of-four’s help for the international charity over his expansive career.

Ahead of the evening, he shared a photo to Instagram which showed him posing with a group of young children and said: ’Extremely honoured to receive the @UNICEFUSA’s Humanitarian Leadership Award this evening at the #UNICEFBall.

’I can’t wait to continue doing all I can for Unicef and my 7 Fund, 7.org, to help children across the world.’

Presented by Louis Vuitton, the UNICEF Ball marked the launch of LOUIS VUITTON for UNICEF, a global partnership between the humanitarian organization for children and the luxury fashion house to help support children affected by conflict, disease, natural disasters, and other situations that threaten their safety and well-being.

The celebrity guests, which also included Michelle Rodriguez, Miranda Kerr and Heidi Klum, pulled out all the stops when it came to their red carpet looks for the charitable evening.

Several of the stars picked plunging outfits, including Selena, who left little to the imagination in a daring red leather creation that similarly hinted at her slender legs with cutout flowers.

The gown had a ruffled collar and cap sleeves, a zip all the way down the front and unusual cut-out sections down each leg.

Selena also sported gold sandals and matching rings, and left her glossy raven locks loose but let her outfit be the centre of attention by keeping her make-up simple, with nude lips and a touch of smoky eye shadow.

On the night, multi-Grammy Award winner Mariah performed Always Be My Baby, We Belong Together and Hero for the A-list guests in attendance at the sixth biennial event.

She showed off her famous curves with a classic cut dress that skimmed over her figure in a straight shape, with a patent black bodice to accentuate her cleavage.

The singer was positively glowing when she took to the stage with a wind machine tousling her tresses to add intensity to her stage performance on Tuesday.

Picking out a similar colour, actress Nicole Kidman stepped out of her comfort zone that night and plumped for a particularly racy plunging neckline and thigh high split.

She wore her hair up to reveal her bare decolletage and as she walked, her dress parted to reveal her sensational pins.

The 48-year-old additionally sported a dramatic dazzling necklace, printed grey sandals and red lipstick, and styled her strawberry blonde hair into an elegant updo.

Fast And Furious actress Michelle Rodriguez similarly picked out a low-cut red dress, but hers had long sleeves, a saucy slit up one side and a neckline that plunged almost all the way to her belly button.

Bowie was a master of style reinvention

Whether it was a skintight catsuit and a face full of make-up or a dapper jacket and neatly combed hair, David Bowie pulled off a wide variation of looks during his six-decades long career.

He admitted having been ”really into clothes” as a teen, and the love of fashion featured throughout his musical exploits.

Aged 15, he had been fascinated by a fellow passenger on the train who he described as managing to look tough while wearing eyeshadow.

”And the jarringness of it was really weird. I thought, I like that – I feel that, not one thing or the other,” he told Interview magazine in 1990.

His famous Ziggy Stardust character, based on the rocker Vince Taylor, was always supposed to be centred on clothes, he said.

The first name referred not only to Iggy Pop but also to a tailor’s shop he passed once.

He told Q magazine in the same year: ”I thought, well, this whole thing is gonna be about clothes, so it was my own little joke calling him Ziggy.”

Perhaps in tribute to his love of style he released a single entitled Fashion in 1980, reaching number five in the charts.

A master of reinvention, he transformed himself from the theatrical Ziggy to a glam rocker, soul singer and hippie songwriter over the years.

His lasting influence on both music and fashion was clear to see when he was given a Brit award two years ago, accepted on his behalf by supermodel Kate Moss who wore one of his Ziggy Stardust stage outfits from 1972.

The David Bowie Is exhibition, which achieved the highest ever advance booking for an exhibition when it opened in London in March 2013, is running at the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands.

Featuring original costumes including a spacesuit-style jumpsuit he wore on television in 1979 in character as Major Tom, the exhibition looks at how Bowie’s work both influenced and was influenced by fashion and design.

At the exhibition’s opening, curator Victoria Broackes described Bowie as a pioneer.

She said: ”He’s a pioneer not just in music but also in stage shows, in what he wears, he’s always been personally and actively involved in everything that he creates.”
