Katsellessani kamerassa olevia kuvia törmäsin näihin Göteborgissa otettuhin kuviin. Olin täysin unohtanut vinkata teille hieman erikoisemmasta hotellista, nimittäin laivahotelli Barken Vikingistä. Tämä mahtava laivahotelli sijaitsee pienen kävelymatkan päästä rautatieasemalta, joten on senkin vuoksi varsin varteenotettava hotellivaihtoehto Göteborgissa. Laivan ravintolassa tarjoillaan myös lounasta arkipäivisin, joten hotelliin voi käydä tutustumassa vain lounaan merkeissä.

Tämä laiva on luokiteltu kolmen tähden hotelliksi ja se pitää sisällään 29 superior huonetta. Valitettavasti tällä kertaa en päässyt nauttimaan noista superior hyteistä, mutta tarkemmat kuvat hyteistä näet tästä. Tämä hotelli olisi kyllä hauska vaihtoehto, jos suuntaisi kesäaikaan Göteborgiin. 

Laivan historia ulottuu 1907 vuoteen asti. Tässä on ote laivan historiasta hotellin nettisivuilta: ”Barken Viking was built in 1907 at Burmeister & Wain in Copenhagen, Denmark. She is a four-masted bark, and today there are only ten four-masted barks in the world, five of which are still flying. Barken Viking was built to educate and train future sailors to a growing fleet in Denmark.

In 1921 the freight market was so bad that the then owner DFDS put the ship in mothballs. Two years later she was brought back into use by transporting wood from Sundsvall to Melbourne, but in 1927 it was again difficult times and the business was put on hold.

In the summer of 1929 took shipowner Gustaf Erikson of the ship and port became Mariehamn in Åland. Since it was important for Gustavus to finance the business they built a number of passenger cabins on board and sold berths. When the owner felt it was no longer possible to continue the business tried to find a suitable buyer.Some serious buyers turned out not and destruction seemed to be the only option. Finally, she was towed instead of scrapping to Holland and came to be included in the Rotterdam Maritime Exhibition 1950.

Hotellin lisäksi laivalta voi myös vuokrata erilaisia tiloja kokouksia tai juhlia varten. Meidän kokouksen jälkeen söimme myös illallista laivalla, jonka jälkeen oli mahdollisuus ihastella kaunista auringonlaskua laivan kannella.
