Sisulla ja lagomilla

Viitaten edelliseen kirjoitukseen, jossa paitsi ansiokkaasti onnistuin sullomaan yhteen postaukseen hyggen, mummokalsarit ja Benedict Cumberbatchin, olen jälleen kerran vähän myöhässä. Hygge on nimittäin so last season. Sen sijaan tämän vuoden sana The Timesin mukaan on sisu. Sen määritelmä on kyllä vähän hämmentävä.

”A Finnish word that means bravery, resilience, stoicism and hardiness. For obvious reasons, sisu is going to be one of the must-have qualities this year. So, so hot right now. Work on your sisu by practising saying certain words and phrases out loud, such as “Article 50”, “presidential visit” and “Lord Farage”, without making any facial expressions or involuntary noises.”

Siis kyllähän nyt prkl pitää sanoa, vaikka muuten hiljaa oltaisiinkin.

Listalle pääsi myös lagom.

”It’s already the word on every hipster’s lips. It is the Swedish word for just the right amount, or the perfect balance. Think of yin and yang, wearing a cosy knitted jumper and a beanie. Ja arbejdsglaedje.

”In Danish, arbejdsglaede describes a situation where your work is a source of joy and happiness. English doesn’t have an equivalent — just the glum phrase “job satisfaction” — because our more puritanical culture frowns on group sex with co-workers during lunch breaks and nicking stationery from the office cupboard. Still, we can and should aspire to arbejdsglaede. Try making your home life intolerable by, for instance, having children. Working late will start to feel like a treat.”
