Mohikaanin tietää varmasti kaikki, mutta tämän hiustyylin nimessä olevan sanan ”quiff” selitys kuuluu Internetin mukaan näin: ”badass haircut from the 50’s, worn by guys that would kick your ass anyday”. Suoraan suomennettuna kova hiustyyli viisikymmentäluvulta, tyypeillä jotka voisivat kick your ass milloin vain 🙂

Maisan hiustyylillä ei ihan noin rankkaa uskottavuutta haettu, mutta oli hieno kokeilla uutta kivaa lettityyliä. Äkkiä katsottuna tämä ei perinteisestä hollantilaisesta letistä (eli ranskanletti ”väärinpäin”) eroa paljoa, mutta pieni juju letissä kuitenkin on.

Tavallisessa hollantilaisessa päältä edestä aloitettuna letti on todella pieni aluksi, mutta Shelley-nimisen letittäjän (Instagram: @prettylittlebraids) letin teko aloitetaankin keskeltä päälakea ja edetään ensin eteenpäin, jonka jälkeen kiepsautetaan yli ja lähdetään taaksepäin. Shelley teki mainion kuvallisen ohjeen letistä ja suomennan sen tämän perään.

Mitäs tykkäätte? Itse pystyisin näkemään tämän helposti myös aikuisen päässä. Melko badass vai mitä? 🙂

Toinen etu tässä tyylissä on, että letti pysyy hyvin kasassa vaikka sitä ”lätyttää”,
eli vetää leveämmäksi/näyttävämmäksi kun se on muuten valmis.

1. Tee neliskanttisen mallinen osio otsalta päälaelle ja laita klipsillä sivuun loput hiukset.
2. Aloita keskeltä päälakea letittämään tavallista ranskanlettiä ja etene kohti otsaa, kuten kuvassa on näytetty.
3. Kun olet saanut letitettyä kaikki rajatut hiukset, letitä vielä muutama pykälä tavallista lettiä ja vedä letti reunoista isommaksi (”lätytä se”;)
4. Kiepsauta letti yli, jotta voit alkaa letittämään kohti takaraivoa. Tässä kohtaa letti muuttuu hollantilaiseksi (eli ”ranskanletti väärinpäin”).
5. Letitä hollantilaista lettiä kohti takaraivoa keräten samalla korvan viereltä kaikki hiukset mukaan. Lopuksi jälleen ”lätytä” letti, eli siis vedä valmista lettiä reunoista isommaksi ja näyttävämmäksi. Tähän lätyttämiseen löytyy esim YouTubesta hakusanoilla ”pancaked braid” ohjeita.
6. Tältä näytti lopullinen letti Shelleyn tekemänä. Hän kehoitti jakamaan muiden tekemät versiot aihetunnisteella #fauxquiffmowhawk ja pyysi pitämään hauskaa tämän kanssa 🙂

TUTORIAL by @prettylittlebraids
Step 1. Part a square in the top of the head from the crown to the forehead and clip remaining hair at the back.
Step 2. Start by Frenchbraiding the square working from the crown of the head forward to the forehead as shown.
Step 3. Once all hair is collected in the frenchbraid, braid a couple more strands and pancake. The length of this part will determine how big you want the quiff to be.
Step 4. Flip the braid over so you can then work towards the back of the head. It is at this time that the braid changes to a Dutch braid.
Step 5. Dutch braid the hair starting by collecting pieces from the ear up. This side hair should cover your square part as you braid upwards and hide any sign of the underneath braid. Braid all the way down back of the head until all hair is picked up. Pancake.
Step 6. The end result. Post recreations to #fauxquiffmowhawk 🙂 Hope you enjoy!!

Everyone knows what mowhawk (or mohawk) is, but definition for quiff says ”badass haircut from the 50’s, worn by guys that would kick your ass anyday”.

I wasn’t trying to reach that rough street cred by braiding Maisa’s hair, but it was very nice to try a new hairstyle that was created by Shelley (Instagram: @prettylittlebraids). On a quick look this shows kind of regular dutch braid, but on a closer view there is a twist.

The braid is very small in the beginning in a normal dutch braid when started from forehead and braided towards back of the head. On this one you start from center of the head and braid firstly towards the forehead. Then it is flipped over and braided to the other way. Shelley made an great Step by Step tutorial on a photo shown above.

I could easily see this on adults also, kind of badass, isn’t it? 🙂

Kuuleman mukaan parhaat letittäjät ovat aloittaneet aikoinaan letittämällä Barbie-nukkejensa hiuksia. No minulla ei sattuneesta syystä ole siitä tietoa, mutta nykyään talossa kyllä vilisee Barbeja ja hekin tuntuvat saavan letit hiuksiinsa. Siispä saimme idea yhdessä kahden muun letittäjän kanssa (Katja ja Jo). Voisihan Barbiella ja tytöllä olla samanlainen lettikampaus? 🙂

Meidän kuvassa Maisa sai valita lempibarbiensa, joka muuten oli Tähkäpää ja hiustyylin jonka osaa tehdä. Maisa teki itse Tähkäpäälle kalanruotoletin (fisthtail) ja minä tein Maisalle samasta letistä ”hollantilaisen” version (dutch fishtail).

IN ENGLISH:

I have heard that the best braiders have started by braiding their Barbie dolls. I surprisingly don’t have done that, but nowadays there is plenty of Barbies in our house also. And many of them have braided hairs of course. So me and two other braiders (Katja and Jo) had an idea. We could do matching braids to girls and to the Barbies? 🙂

On our photo Maisa got to choose her favourite Barbie, which by the way was Rapunzel and a hairdo that she can manage to do. Maisa made a fishtail braid to Rapunzel and I made a dutch version of the same braid to Maisa.

Also Katja and Jo made their photos on the same theme and then in Instagram we challenged also others to join. There’s thirty photos posted already!
