Picnic reading

I don’t read that much, and so it’s sometimes very like me to go for the easy road and look up a book in the library based on its recommendation in a women’s magazine. Especially in the summer.

This is what I’ve started reading on sunny days in the park. Rules of Civility, translated in Finnish as Seuraelämän säännöt, by Amor Towles (I mean, come on, did his parents name him knowing he’d be a writer?).  With compliments from the author of One day on the first page, it can’t be anything but made for a light reader like me.

Plus, the description of the book includes words like conversations, gin martinis, jazz bands and silk stockings. And it takes place in New York. In the 30’s.

Hooray women’s magazines summer book reviews, I say!

Well guess what, Helsinki

Yippee is the word of the day!

Seems that my hope of visiting Helsinki again is not only a hope for long. I just found out that I will be spending at least half of august there.

After a weekend of flowing and listening to great bands at a festival, I get to see some films too – for free – because I’m volunteering at the Espoo Ciné film festival!

They are showing Woody Allen’s new movie To Rome with Love, which I hope to catch like I did last summer with the previous one. I missed the film but was lucky to see the guy himself at the premiere in Paris last month. Apparently he’s shooting in a new city every year. Not bad.
