They Had Style, They Had Grace

Whose style makes you jealous? Whose style makes you think ”Oh, I wish I could look like that, even for a day.”? Who has a presence that makes you sit down and notice them? In short…Who is your style icon?

Maybe it is the elegant Audrey Hepburn, the glamorous Elizabeth Taylor or the chic Catherine Deneuve. Or maybe it’s Madonna with her Jean Paul Gaultier corsets, Kate Moss with her boho chic style or Kate Middleton with her simple, yet classic, dresses. Maybe.

But what about style icons, such as, Marlon Brando, James Dean, David Beckham or David Bowie? To quote Madonna ’they had style, they had grace’…or still have in some cases.

Yes, they’re men. Yes, they mainly wear suits, or a T-shirt and jeans. How hard could it possibly be to be a stylish guy?

But in the end, style is not about what you wear, it’s how you wear it, and that is what makes someone a style icon. Well, at least in my opinion.

So let’s consider this from a different angle.

Who is your male style icon?

I personally have a couple of options with fairly different styles – to put it mildly. The first being…

James Dean with his classic white T-shirt and jeans combo.

The perfect timeless recipe. Simple, classic, yet cool. Always, so freaking cool.

Then there’s Cary Grant.

You can’t forget Cary Grant. Ever.

Ever.

If you can’t marry him, you might as well try to emulate his style, right? Try being the operative word here.

Great suits with a perfect fit. Suave, elegant, yet effortless. And always impeccable.

Seriously, look at that smile – and that outfit.

Then there’s the one…The one that appeals to the side of me that wants to go a little crazy.

Freddie Mercury. Glamour and rock combined in the craziest way.

Unique, wild and confident. Always, putting on a show and making sure no one could ignore him, when he walked into the room.

Who wouldn’t want to feel like that once in a while?

Book – Fashionisto: A Century of Style Icons by Simone Werle

And what better way to end this post than with a quote from the man himself.

”I always knew I was a star. And now, the rest of the world seems to agree with me.”

Maybe, we should all start dressing like that.
