I Need a Gregory Peck
If I’m honest I have to tell you …
I still read fairy tales,
and I like them best of all.
Audrey Hepburn
In case you haven’t already figured out, I love me a little vintage. Especially, vintage bags, accessories, clothes…Okay, everything. I rarely wear them, but I love the look and feel of them.
I also love old Hollywood movies. They bring out the romantic in me. I mean who doesn’t love Clark Gable in It Happened One Night, Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn in Bringing Up Baby (or anything for that matter), Gene Kelly in Singin’ in the Rain or all of those Rock Hudson/Doris Day films.
Of course, I haven’t yet mentioned my all time favourite…Roman Holiday with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn. It’s got it all…Audrey Hepburn running aroung Rome in cute clothes, Gregory Peck looking exquisite and, of course, Rome itself. It’s just a nice little movie that always makes me smile.
When I visited Rome last spring, I did the only thing a true fan of the movie would do…visit the Mouth of Truth (Bocca della Verità) at Santa Maria di Cosmedin. Still have my hand attached by the way. (Of course, I had to stand in line for about thirty minutes to put my hand in that wall. But you know…totally worth it.)
So occasionally, it’s nice to put on some black capri pants, kick on some ballet flats and grab a cute little bag and go outside…And to pretend to go for a drive on a Vespa…with Gregory Peck…in Rome. In a cute pixie cut…naturally.
Basically, I’d just like to be Audrey Hepburn. Of course, I could never muster the same kind of effortless charm and style. And I do like my ripped jeans and baseball caps a bit too much. I guess the vintage bags are my tiny way of unleashing my inner Audrey.
Now if somebody could find me a Gregory Peck of my own, I’d be just dandy.
