Kids in the garden
I have to share this with you: one of my favourite things is to watch kids – my own and their friends – play in our garden. I do it at one of my favourite places in the house, standing by the kitchen window.
There’s just something so sweet and beautiful and magical about the way they gather there, wandering slowly or riding in with their bikes at full speed, and suddenly, before a grown up eye has realised what’s going on, they’re in the middle of a play or a game.
Today Veera went to a friend’s house, she could hardly wait until I got home so she could ask me if she could go (because I didn’t answer the phone because I was sleeping on the bus), and then she took her bike and went. There are about ten kids exactly the same age who live in this same neighbourhood. So we let them roam free between us. I tried to call her a couple of hours later to find out how she was doing, and seconds later she appeared in the living room just to tell me that the others were waiting for her outside. And I was so happy!
She went out, too, and Kerttu followed, of course, and the older kids took her along and she tried her best being part of the game. Bless.
Three hours outside must be enough for today. I really wouldn’t want to call the girls in just yet, but it’s dinner time and all…
