12. week

On Monday we had to hand in our Event Manager Interview for Introduction and Event Management and PR at school. For the report we had to interview an event manager or a member of organizing body about organizing an event. For the written part we had to include the questions and answers that the interview consisted of. We had done our reports properly and well in advance. In the afternoon we figured we would go to the outdoor gym and as the weather was tolerable, we spent the usual couple of hours there. Afterwards we made some dinner and finished our Marketing Case Study, which was due on Tuesday. The Marketing Case Study was a group work we did with a French exchange student on our class and everyone was happy with the result – we had all done our parts and we felt we had done well.

On Wednesday we had a guest lecturer on Adventure Tourism class. He was a man with multiple fields of work: he had expertise as a mountain rescuer, a paramedic and a firefighter and he told us about a few educational trips he had made. One of them was to Iceland, where he took part in Fire and Ice Challenge in Iceland, which he described to be a trip to remember. He also had done a practical training in Johannesburg, South Africa. He told us facts that you need to be taken into consideration when travelling to countries that are unstable in different ways. There were many important things that you might not even think about, e.g.: in South Africa you shouldn’t drive a car with the doors or windows open due to the road thieves.

After school we went to the outdoor gym for a change. Later, in the evening we went to Lillies to listen to traditional music. The night went well; we had thought we would just buy one drink each, listen to the music and then go back home. We were in midst of a pleasant talk, when an elderly gentleman left the bar and Siru noticed he had left his cane at the bar counter. She told it to Noora, who ran after him to give him the cane back. The man was so flattered by our action that he came back to the pub and gave the bartender some money and told them to serve us drinks. We couldn’t say no, so we took the same kind of drinks and continued with the talking. Soon two Irish boys sitting next to us started a conversation with us because one of them heard us speaking in Finnish. We talked for a while with them but after finishing our drinks we decided to go home. Only, we tried to get out of a door that had already been closed for the night. We were about to turn on our heels and go to the other door, but the bartender came and insisted on opening the locked door for us. For that night, we truly felt ourselves the VIPs.

For the rest of the week we didn’t do much worth mentioning. We just went to the outdoor gym every single day – we figured at least it would be a productive way of spending our time. Sometimes going out didn’t feel very appealing when it was raining, but as the weather was so nice it wasn’t much of a bother. We were proud to be so active, but in the same time we were just a little bit afraid that if it would rain we wouldn’t be so keen on going there.
