6. week

The week after travelling we didn’t do much –basically returning back to the mundane life. On Monday we had our presentation in Event Management and P.R. and in the evening Noora’s godmother came over with her family for a home-cooked dinner.

On Tuesday night we went to Swagman to listen to live music and decided to eat once we went there already. Noora had some Goat Cheese pizza, which could potentially have been really tasty, but it was very salty as it had what seemed like sun dried tomatoes and capers topped with parmesan cheese. Siru ordered Funky Chunky Chips (coated in melted mozzarella, bacon and onion and sour cream) from Starters/Little Bites part of the menu, so the portion was surprising – it was huge. After dinner we enjoyed the music and Iiris, Noora’s second cousin, was even asked to dance.

Snöö!

On Wednesday we went once again to the Donegal Adventure Center. We started the day by getting blindfolded and being instructed to a muddy obstacle course. We had to go over and under obstacles, crawl through pipes and in the mud relying only to our hearing (person in front of you or personnel at the obstacle would instruct you) and sense of touch. From time to time you would stand in the freezing water up to you thighs and occasionally you would have to go flat on your stomach in the mud. After completing the course we got to lift our blindfolds and see ourselves how small an area we had actually covered.

Rolling in the Deep (Mud) like Adele

We then had a quick lunch break before squeezing into our wetsuits for the Viking Challenge. We were divided into two teams and we were supposed to build a raft of two barrels, two long planks of wood, two short planks of wood and a few pieces of rope. The raft was to carry two people and we would sail across a pool at the coast of the sea. We had just 5 to 10 minutes time to build our raft and before the race could ever begin, one of the rafts fell apart. The second raft held together a few strokes of the paddle before tipping over and practically exploding. We gathered the bits and pieces and quickly headed for a warm shower – the swim in the sea hadn’t actually been as bad as the mud-crawling, since at least in the sea you could move freely and keep warm. In the mud you had to stop in the thigh-high water to wait for the others to move ahead of you before proceeding.

Viking Challenge

We had had plans to go to the Slieve League with Noora’s godmother, but as it was getting late by the time we got out of the shower and we were a bit cold, we decided to find a restaurant to eat in for the time being. We drove back to Sligo and went to Fiddler’s Creek for food – the hamburger there was nothing compare to some of the masterpieces we had previously had – and went home to wash some laundry. We threw the muddy clothes into the shower floor to get rid of most of the mud, but it felt never-ending. The water coming out of the clothes could as well have been straight from the mud-pool at the obstacle course. After some time we gave u and decided to wash the clothes twice. In the evening we went to Lillies’ traditional music night to enjoy the last common evening with Noora’s godmother and her family. The music was as nice as you could imagine traditional music to be and we had the VIP spot just a few meters from band. Iiris was once again admired and even asked to play one of the band’s violin, when they heard that she plays violin. Siru was feeling even more unwell than in the restaurant earlier, so she ordered a hot whiskey seasoned with lemon and clove.

By the Thursday morning Siru had lost her voice again so we couldn’t do our Spanish dialogue. She stayed home for the Friday, so she had to postpone her Cultural Tourism presentation, too. Rest of the weekend we spent doing schoolwork – projects, homework and practicing Spanish dialogue (written, until Siru gained her voice back). On Saturday Noora went grocery shopping by herself, as she refused to take Siru with her when she was just recovering from the cold. Alongside to the obligatory shopping she had an expedition to search for charity shops in Sligo. As the result she found two shops to explore later when her companion would have fully recovered.
