Of snowstorms, toddler tantrums and everything else.

It’s been a while, blog universe!

I’ve been meaning to get back into blogging for a while now-  it really is something that I want to do regularly, in addition to learning the art of photography! I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions and I’ve never been able to keep a single one going for a whole year, but it’s still January… so for the nth time, here’s my blog’s fresh start!

We were promised a snow storm, and although it wasn’t as crazy as it was predicted to be, we are blanketed in over a foot of snow here in Helsinki!

In light of the snowstorm (and the copious amounts of snow on the ground that make a stroller so very hard to push), I decided to let Kenzie stay home from daycare today. The morning went fairly productively as I finished up most of my math homework due Monday while Kenzie happily entertained herself with some Netflix and building blocks. She ate a fairly decent breakfast and lunch, and all was well…until naptime came around. If there is any stage in our daily lives when the terrible twos rear its ugly head, it’s usually at naptime, and today was definitely no exception. We struggled for over an hour- there were tears, screams, kicks and pleas… until I caved and said we would do quiet time if she really didn’t want to nap. After having enforced quiet time rules…… she actually fell asleep.

As I sit here in our living room, for the very first quiet moment I have to myself today- I realize that we truly have come so far since the newborn baby phase. Kenzie has grown up- she is opinionated and smart, outgoing yet shy, and very much her own person. I really can’t wait to see even more of her personality shine through… she definitely has no qualms letting us know what she likes and dislikes!

Our house is slowly being taken over by moomin characters in all forms: toys, puzzles, plates, glasses, cutlery, clothing, you name it! I am just hoping this isn’t a short-lived phase because I have no idea how I’m going to keep up… Also, yes, we do have a giant slide in our living room… Thank you Santa Claus.

Life seems to be very fast paced at the moment. Husband is starting a new job in a couple of weeks, I have my thesis in the works- and in the little free time that I have, I am rekindling my love for jigsaw puzzles and attempting to teach myself photography. We have a major life event coming up so soon too- but mum’s the word for now.

Does anybody know how I can remember / be motivated to keep this blog going? Anyone? Please?

p.s. also wondering if I should be writing this in Finnish as well….

Playground shenanigans

So it’s been a minute since the last blog post… but I haven’t abandoned this blog just yet!Things have been quite busy as the end of the school year went by and I am now officially on summer vacation! Having said that, I am embracing quality family time and trying to whip up better (and cuter) meals.

Today, we went to the nearby daycare and spent some time at the playground – and I actually had to stop for a moment because I could barely recognize the toddler playing…. Sometimes it hits me hard just how ”grown up” Kenzie is already. I know that she’s not even two, but we have come SUCH a long way! She is putting together phrases and sometimes sentences, knows what she likes/doesn’t like, has favorite games and toys, memorizes the words on her flash cards and animal sounds, and has overall developed such a silly and strong  personality! Also, she has learned to bargain as she wouldn’t eat her meals without ketchup today and would only take big bites when I promised to add more ketchup on her plate…..

Starting to plan her second birthday party as well! So excited…. but also, I’m not ready for her to turn two just yet!!!

In other news, Kenzie is looking forward to getting on an airplane again! 8 weeks til we are off to Spain!
