The first day of New Year. What should I do?

I’m holding all the possibilities in my hands. Should I go out for a walk? Should I read the last hundred pages of Zadie Smith’s NW? Should I make a list of new years resolutions I’m not going to maintain? Or should I just curl on the sofa with a furry friend?

I’ve got a whole year of changes ahead. I already know I gotta move out of my apartment and find another at the latest at fall. But there are also many other changes, lying underneath, that are going to change my life and me as a person.

Last year was magnificent. So many new people – inspirational, caring, wonderful people – came into my life and made it just a little bit more magical. I laughed, I cried. I went to Khao Lak, Stockholm and Copenhagen. I dreamed and made my dreams come true.

In case some of you guys didn’t know, I’m a hopeless dreamer – have always been. I dream of moving to NY, London or Stockholm. I dream of traveling to San Fran, Reykjavik, Bali, Moscow and hundred other places. I dream of certain moments: dancing on rooftop parties in warm New York City, lying hours by the ocean on some exotic location, diving above colorful barrier reefs… Sometimes I have so many dreams I’m afraid my head’s going to explode!

The question is: Who’s stopping you? Who’s stopping you dreaming and trying to make things happen?

The answer should be NO ONE.

’Cause the solid truth of life is that YOU make your life AWESOME. YOU are in charge of your happiness. And in the end it’s YOU who make all those crazy/badass/amazing/magical things happen.

(Just read Rubin Gretchen’s The Happiness Project and you’ll know what I’m talking about. I think everyone on this planet should read that book.)

So what’ll your year 2014 be? Will it be a year full of partying and having fun? Will it be studying and working, accomplishing goals you’ve set yourself to success? There are hundreds, thousands, propably millions of options.

My ”New Year’s Resolutions”?

  • Smile more. Make yourself and people around you happy. Dance.
  • Work for your goals. You wont catch your dreams just sitting on your buttocks.
  • See friends as often as you can. Here I’ll quote Carrie Bradshaw: ”They say nothing lasts forever; dreams change, trends come and go, but friendships never go out of style.”

Have a wonderful New Year 2014,

xo Hanna

Ps. I know what your thinking – why English? Well, I just kinda felt like it. So I thought, hey, let’s try it!
