Toni Maticevski and Ryan Storer rattle chains at Australian Fashion Week

If ever you needed proof that those who live on Planet Fashion dance to the beat of a different drum to the rest of us, it was on the catwalk at Toni Maticevski’s extraordinary runway show which launched this year’s Mercedes Benz Australian Fashion Week at Barangaroo’s cavernous Cut-Away.But it wasn’t Maticevski’s frocks and paint suits that stole the show, but the eye-popping jewellery which he collaborated on with Sydney jeweller Ryan Storer.Slida / Kolumn V-ringad Långärmat Rhinestone Sopa / Borste Tåg Satin Klänningimage:Balklanningar 2016First there was the silver gob-stopper mouth ornament worn by some of the models, precariously placed between their lips, with flourishes of crystal jewels pinching into their cheeks. Other models came out with dainty handcuffs dangling around their wrists, festooned with more crystals. Some wore the handcuffs at the front, others at the rear, which caused a bit of a situation for one poor dear who stumbled like a new-born fawn on the slippery catwalk in her towering heels, her hands chained behind her.But arguably the show-stopping piece was the bejeweled manacle worn by a couple of the models, trussed up in crystal encrusted chains. There were a few uneasy squirms among the less fashionable front rowers amongst PS, as we tried to make sense of the Guantanamo Bay style glamour.Storer later told PS the piece was all made by hand and took him two weeks: ”The main piece can be worn as separate pieces as they all detach so could essentially be worn off the runway. I have received a lot of emails interested in the piece but more to work on custom pieces, I’m assuming without the handcuffs but you never know.”See More: Klanningar till Brollop
