Jo kolmatta päivää peräkkäin olen seikkailemassa Manhattanilla. Tämä on ensimmäinen kerta, kun olen ulkomailla kävelemässä kaupungilla aivan yksin ja täytyy sanoa, että yllättäen se ei olekaan yhtään tylsää eikä pelottavaa. Tottakai seurassa on aina vielä hauskempaa, mutta ei tämäkään ole yhtään pahaa. Herätään aikaisin, matkustetaan keskustaan, jonka jälkeen saatan toisen töihin. Sieltä pistän päiväni käyntiin etsimällä joku kahvila tai aamiaispaikka. Joskus kaivan kännykkäkartan esiin ja katson, mitä paikkoja lähistöllä löytyy, mutta yleensä menen ihan vain tutkimisperiaatteella. Kävelen minne tie vie ja samalla katson tarkasti ympärilläni olevaa meininkiä. Tykkään tästä tavasta enemmän, en halua aina, että minulla on määränpää, jota etsin kännykkää tuijottaen sivuille katsomatta. Tykkään eksyä vieraassa kaupungissa. Nautin siitä vapauden tunteesta, kun tietää, että mikään ei sido ja aikaa on enemmän kuin tarpeeksi. Valitsen tarkasti aamiaispaikkani sen koon (istumapaikkoja täytyy olla jonkin verran), hintatason, tunnelman ja valikoiman perusteella. Iloitsen aina suuresti törmätessäni kriteereitäni täyttävään kahvilaan ja vietän siellä yleensä muutaman tunnin parin kahvikupin ja aamiaisen ääressä. Ajattelin tehdä tänne blogiin listan suosikki ruokapaikoistani sitten, kun niitä kertyy tarpeeksi. Aamiaisella aina suunnittelen päivän ohjelman (jos haahuilua kaupungilla voi kutsua ohjelmaksi). Tänään kävelin taas tosi paljon, kun oli suhteellisen lämmin sää ja kaupunki oli auringonvalon täyttämä. Huomenna suunnittelin Central parkin tutkimisen jatkamista. Siellä, kun olen jo kerran haahuillut, mutta koska se on niin iso, viimeksi ehdin kävellä läpi ehkä 10% siitä. Huomenna sitten lisää. Tänään löysin matkallani MET-museon (Metropolitan Museum of Art), mutten mennyt sisään, kun olin just etsimässä ruokapaikan, joten jätän senkin huomiseksi. Koska olen nyt ”eksynyt” semi kauas yleisestä tapaamispaikastamme, lähden nyt tästä mukavan kotoisasta kahvilasta liikkeelle takaisinpäin. Vielä yksi seikkailupäivä Nycissä on kohta ohi. Edessä vielä kotimatka ja illalla toivon mukaan rauhallinen koti-sohva-leffa-ilta.

It’s my third day of adventures in Manhattan. Before, I always thought that spending time alone in a new city would be pretty scary and maybe little bit boring, especially when it’s as huge and crazy as New York. But I have to admit, I was wrong. This is surprisingly nice. I start my days early by traveling to centre and escorting my other half to work. After that I have all day to wander around the city and do what I want. First thing in the morning, I ofc try to find a breakfast place, where I could start my morning in an easy and cozy way with coffee and a good meal. When I search for the places to eat, I take into consideration the size of the place (have to be seating places in a cafe), the menu and the prices. If it’s cozy and has nice athmosphere, it will get a huge plus from me. I usually just walk where the streets take me, without plans and try to look around for cafe, which fulfills my requirements. I’m always super happy when I find a place like that and usually spend few hours in there with a few cups of coffee and a nice breakfast meal, trying to think through the plan for the day (if you can call wandering around the city a plan). Today I’ve been walking a lot again, since the weather was pretty warm and the city was filled with sunlight. Tomorrow I was planning to take more closer look at Central park, since last time, I saw maybe 10% of it. I also spotted MET museum today, but didn’t go in, since I had to find a place to eat and charge my phone. So I leave it also for tomorrow. Now I’m gonna finally move from this cozy cafe and go back to Lexington, where we’re usually meating. Another day in NYC almost over and now I’m hoping for a nice relaxed movie evening at home.
