Off we go!

Jambo!

Two public health care nurse students decided to go wild and do a few work placements in a little bit more exotic place than Finland. We are heading to Tanzania for the next three months!  We  want to show our family and  friends and other people who might care (??) our trip through posts, pics and videos and this is the easiest way to do it. We are also using this blog to benefit our thesis. This is our first time writing a blog so don’t expect too much, haha. We might even be pro bloggers buy the time we finish our journey (yeah right). We were going to do our first posting months before but the fact is that here we are, sitting at the boarding gate of Amsterdam’s airport writing our first post in a slight panic. 😅

We are students from Saimaa UAS and this is our 6th semester. We are doing three placements in Kibosho hospital in Moshi. Our internships will be family and community nursing care, the assessment and implementation in client’s health care need and placement  in delivery. At the hospital we work in different wards.

Even tho both of us have travelled a lot neither of us have never visited Africa. This has been our dream for a long time, and in fact, we decided on this at the beginning of our studies. That was in the fall of  2017. Ever since that day we have been planning this trip more or less. There’s been a shit ton of paperwork, planning, sweat and tears. So it better be all worth it. It will be. Destinationwise… The main reason that we ended up with Tanzania was the cultural differences, especially in the health care system. The second reason for it was the upcoming thesis. Also it was convenience for us to do the trip through Tanzanian Volunteers since they have a partnership with our university. We will tell you more about the organization later in it’s own chapter.

CURRENT MOOD: Excited. Tired. Happy. Mixed feelings. Loaded.

To be continued…
