The latest
1/3 of the trip done and dusted. Crazy. Time flies when you are having fun… We’ll just give you a quick update about the past few weeks.

The internship has been going good. We’ve now spent one week in a male ward, a week in the female ward and a week in the pediatric ward. This week we’ve had a few days in the dental clinic and today and yesterday we’ve been to the eye clinic. The staff at Kibosho hospital has been amazing. Nurses, doctors and students have been very welcoming towards us. (Especially the doctors, this kind of treatment you’d only dream about in Finland!!) We haven’t been doing any basic care of the patients here since the relatives do it all (bathing, feeding, hygiene etc.) We’ve been taking part in every possible tasks and actually got to do a lot more than we thought after the first few days. For instance got to assist the dentist in many kind of dental issues.

Outside of the working hours we have managed to have a little bit of fun as well. We have made many local friends, not just in Moshi, but all over from Tanzania. There is a city called Arusha, it’s about 80 km west from Moshi. That’s were we have been spending few weekends, Christmas Day (Eszter) and New Years eve. There’s this group of friends we’ve been hanging out with. Very easy going people with a good sense of humour. They have been showing us around the places, including night life. And woah, Africans really know how to party. The moment you step into the night club and hear the music… That’s when the booty-shaking begins. It’s the atmosphere, music and people that makes it all different. Here everybody gets on the dance floor and knows how to shake it (or at least fake it). If you don’t eat Mishkaki during a night out, you’ll do it on the dance floor (Mishkaki = local beef skewer).

Last month has been incredible. How so? Amazing culture, warm and sunny weather, green and bushy nature,101 and Red Stone, happy people, Kevin the bodaboda driver, local gym and pool, breathtaking views (Kilimanjaro), weekend trips, local food and beer, new friends… This is the place to be.
