WHISTLER WRAP UP

It’s my last night in Whistler. Wow- time really flies and it’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since this great adventure started. Living in Whis has been a dream of mine for so many years, and theres no words to describe how happy I am when I’ve had the chance to live this dream here in B.C. I could write all that stuff about how I’ve met amazing people, been in amazing places, about great experiences, personal growth and so on. Of course everything of that is more than true, but above all I do hope that u can see from the photos how much fun I’ve had over the past year and that I’ve actually felt alive every single day I’ve spent in Whistler. After all, having fun in everything you do is one of the most important things in this life. Thanks Whis!

MY WHISTLER TIPS

Whis_season.jpg

Powder day and you think its enough if you wake up 1h before the lift opens? Wrong! Be there two/three hours before to avoid being the last one in the lift line with all the tourists.

Dont wait for the glass floor p2p gondola – it’s packed and there is absolutely nothing special about it.

Whistler park has more obstacles for beginners than Blackcomb park.

Once you are on the mountain, don’t eat at Rendevouz nor Roundhouse – food there is expencive and it sucks! Instead have your own musli bar and finish your day either with nachos or pork burger at Merlins or even better with $4.99 burger and winter ale at El Furny.

If you go to Moe Joe’s – be nice to Owen (you’ll get to know who he is) and once inside, have whisky shots with Ty.

If you can’t stand Australians – stay away. Whis is full of Aussies.

There’s lots of different type of people in Whistler, try not to judge them. After all, the majority is here for one reason: riding!

Best snowboard store in town? The Circle. No excuses. Ask for Jon and he will show you videos of Arto Saari skating.

Best ice cream in town? Cows – try messybessy and you’ll find yourself going back there time after time.

Best sushi? Sachi Sushi. No exceptions.

Whistler is expencive. Don’t think to come here to make money. Bartenders and Waiters are an exception. Have savings with u.

When u get a job and they ask u to work over hours – do so! You’ll notice that in few months time when the slow season starts they’ll cut your hours anyway. Save your money.

Make friends with locals and you might get to know few secret powder spots on a powder day. You might.

Canadians and especially Whis locals are the nicest people on earth. Be nice to them and you’ll notice that you’ll find yourself helping out a stranger and start smiling at everyone.

If you are looking for peace – Go to Pemberton. There is mountains and peace. Not much more.

However, if you decide to bike to Pemberton, the way back from Pemberton is mostly uphill and therefore much harder than the way there.  Good luck!

If you are looking to see pros – welcome to Whistler. However, meeting the pros is another thing. Don’t be a prohoe and they’ll come to you.

Go to the Whistler Brewery at Function. Nice place with very good and cheap beer.

Also when u move to Whistler, instead of buying everything new and throwing it away after the season – get your stuff from Function Junction.

Be in the right spot : Monday for Tommy Africas, Tuesday for Maxxfish, Wednesday for Bills, Thursday for Garfs and Sun for Moe’s. Don’t go out partying on Fri or Sat if you don’t wanna boogie with tourists.

Take advantage of your buddies who work for the mountain. They’ve got the golden ticket: Staff pass with F&B discounts and retail discounts. However, get your morning coffee at Moguls.

If you live at Staff – get good shoes cause you’ll be hiking up and down that hill pretty many times…unless you get a free lift once in a while from the ski doo guys.

When packing your stuff for Whistler – leave your high heels and dresses at home. Trust me, you are not gonna need them. You’ll gonna notice that Sorel’s are more popular here than any high heels.

If you are looking for a relaxing (and free!) hand treatment – go to Lush. Ask for Nayia and she’ll make sure you’ll get the best hand treatment of your life.  Oh and get yourself some Lemony Flutter – best thing what u can do for your poor winter hands!

Want to see some great landscape shots? Go to Ron Smid gallery in the upper village and you won’t be disappointed. There is also lot’s of great events in Whistler like Deep Winter/ Summer Photo Challenge, Whistler Film Festival etc. – be sure not to miss them!

If you stay for the summer:  do Wedgemount hike- it will be worth it! However, do not expect that its just a lil’ walk in the woods- cause it’s not! It’s a steep hike up on the mountain.

Don’t go sunbathing to the lost lake –that’s for families and tourists. Instead go to Blueberry docks, Alpha Lake rocks or Green Lake.  Way better.

Last but not least: there is always something to do in Whistler! Don’t stay at your house – go explore and you’ll notice you are living the dream.
