Alppikylän taikaa
Lauantaiaamuna heräsimme tällaiseen maisemaan. Olo oli taianomainen, kuin pikkulapsella jouluaattoaamuna. Tai ensilumen sataessa. Oli jotenkin ihanaa saada pieni herätys todellisuuteen: kyllä se joulu sieltä tulee, kun ulkonakin näyttää tuolta! Kyllä se vaan on palmujen alla hankalaa orientoitua joulunodotukseen. Onneksi pääsemme näihin maisemiin joulunakin 🙂
Saturday morning we woke up to this sight. It felt magical, I felt giddy like a little kid on a Christmas morning. It was definitely nice to get a reality check: Christmas is coming after all, if it looks like that outside! It´s just not easy for me to get into Christmas mood underneath the palm trees. I´m so happy we´re going to be back at the mountains for Christmas 🙂
Vaikka vauvaseni herättikin minut jo ennen aamuseitsemää, ei yhtään haitannut nousta: talon isäntä oli laittanut tulet takkaan ja keittänyt aamukahvit. Me nautimme siis pikku-Beanin kanssa aamutunnelmasta tulen rätistessä ja pakkasen paukkuessa. Pikkuinen nautti kovasti uudesta yöpuvustaan, jonka hän sai tädiltään ensimmäisenä syntymäpäivänään.
Even though my baby woke me up before 7am, I wasn´t too bummed about having to get up: our wonderful host had lit the fire and made morning coffee. So me and mini-Bean enjoyed our morning in their cozy living room, next to the fireplace. She had got new pajamas from her aunt for her birthday, and she loved them!
Aamupalaksi saimme maitoon keitettyä kaurapuuroa marjojen ja karamellisoitujen pekaanipähkinöiden kanssa, hillovoileipiä ja paistettuja kananmunia. Voi miten ihanaa näin äitinä on saada nautiskella kaikessa rauhassa toisen tekemä aamupala! Harvinaista herkkua. Aamupalan jälkeen pikkutytöt pääsivät Ginger-hepan kyytiin. Sanomattakin selvää, että esikoistamme ei meinannut saada kyydistä pois millään. Hän siellä topakasti jakeli ohjeita itseään vanhemmille tytöille: pitäkää tiukasti kiinni!
For breakfast we ate oatmeal with berries and caramellized pecans, toast&jelly and eggs. I can´t even describe what a luxury it is to enjoy a breakfast made by someone else – all moms out there know it´s a rare treat. After breakfast, the little girls got to ride Ginger. Needless to say, our daughter was impossible to get off the horse… She was giving orders to the older girls: hold on tight!
Sitten olikin aika leipoa ja herkutella. Isot tytöt tekivät suklaapretzeleitä, jotka olivat kyllä suussasulavan hyviä. Valmiit tuotokset katosivat kuin tuhka tuuleen, ainakin oma esikoiseni popsi niitä antaumuksella menemään. Oli nimittäin suklaassa koko tyttö!
Then it was time to bake and eat some sweets. The big girls made some delicious chocolate pretzels that just disappeared from the plate. My firstborn seemed to enjoy them at least, she was completely covered with chocolate!
Itse valmistelin herkkuja vauvani synttäreille: pidimme yhteiset 1-vuotissynttärit viisi päivää nuoremman serkkupojan kanssa. Itse vastasin makeasta tarjoilusta. Tein jo perinteeksi muodostuneet Magnolia Bakeryn Vanilja-cupcaket, kurpitsapiirakkaa ja Cayenne-pippurisuklaakakun. Tytöt auttoivat innoissaan koristeluissa, ja tässä ovat söpöt tuotokset:
I also did some baking for our daughter´s birthday: we had a party together with her cousin who is 5 days younger. I was responsible for the sweets. I made my traditional Vanilla birthday cupcakes with the Magnolia Bakery recipe, pumpkin pie and Cayenne-pepper Chocolate cake. The girls eagerly helped me with the decorations, so here are the cute cupcakes:
Tässäpä vähän synttäritunnelmia. Talo oli täynnä kaaosta ja riemusta kiljuvia lapsia. Synttärihatut eivät sankareilla kauaa päässä pysyneet, juuri sen aikaa mitä kuvan ottaminen kesti. Puolet koristeista olivat jääneet jonnekin matkan varrelle, kakku oli ruma ja aikatauluja jouduttiin vekslaamaan, mutta tulipahan juhlittua. Lapsilla ainakin oli hauskaa! Eli siis aika tyypilliset lastenkekkerit. ;) Onneksi näitä ei tarvitse järjestää kuin kerran vuodessa – siis per lapsi. Puolen vuoden päästä taas seuraavat kemut! Vedetään henkeä siihen asti.
Here´s some Birthday pics. The house was full of chaos and happily screaming kids. The birthday hats didn´t stay on much longer than it took me to take the pictures. Half of the decorations were missing, the cake was ugly and the schedules needed to be fixed – but hey, we did have a party after all! The kids had fun, that´s for sure. Sound like a typical kid´s party? ;) Fortunately these only have to be arranged once a year – per kid. So another birthday party coming in 6 months! Pheeew. Better take a deep breath before that.
