The last chance at Last Chance

One of my favorite stores here in Phoenix is Last Chance. For those of you who aren´t familiar with the concept, Last Chance is kind of an outlet, only taken to the next level. It´s Nordstrom´s final clearance store that sells returned and overstocked merchandise from Nordstroms, Nordstroms Rack or the online store. Some of the items have been worn or have minor damage, some are in perfect shape. The prices are really low and therefore they don´t accept any returns or exchanges. I go there mostly to find expensive brands that I otherwise would only dream to shop. Outlet shopping definitely takes practice: you need to have patience and learn to have an eye for good purchases. Sometimes you find a lot of good stuff, sometimes you end up leaving empty-handed. Last time my shopping trip was a phenomenal success, and here are some of my awesome finds. 

Yksi suosikkiliikkeistäni täällä Phoenixissa on Last Chance. Kyseessä on eräänlainen outlet, joka on viety vielä ihan uudelle tasolle. Last Chance on osa Nordstromin konsernia: sinne tuodaan tavarataloihin tai nettikauppaan palautetut tuotteet ja erien ylijäämät. Tuotteista osaa on saatettu käyttää tai niissä saattaa olla pieniä virheitä, mutta suurin osa on edelleen ihan priimakunnossa. Hinnat ovat uskomattoman alhaiset, ja tästä johtuen Last Chance ei ota vastaan palautuksia tai tuotteen vaihtoja. Itse käyn siellä metsästämässä kalliita luksusmerkkejä, joiden shoppailusta muuten vain haaveilisin. Outleteissä shoppailu vaatii harjoittelua, kärsivällisyyttä ja ”silmää” hyville löydöille. Joskus onnistaa, joskus taas joutuu lähtemään tyhjin käsin. Viimekertainen käyntini oli varsinainen menestys, ja seuraavaksi esittelenkin muutamia herkkupaloja löytökoristani.

 

 

This beautiful Greek-style draped jersey gown by JS Boutique was something that I actually needed: my first Symphony orchestra concert is coming up in a couple weeks, and according to the etiquette, everyone wears all black. I can´t believe how lucky I got with this one, these dresses range anywhere from $150-200 and I found this one for 13 dollars. This fits me like a glove and flows beautifully to the floor. It has a slit in the front which makes it easier to walk on stage with high heels. I just need to hem it (due to my midget height) and fix one little spot in the front seam. Even I can do that, it´s a piece of cake! 

Tämä kaunis kreikkalaistyylinen, drapeerattu mekko on JS Boutiquen kokoelmasta. Tätä lähdin oikeastaan etsimäänkin, sillä tarvitsin etiketin mukaisesti mustan mekon sinfoniaorkesterini konserttiin. Vieläkin hykerryttää, kuinka onnekas olin tämän löytäessäni: näiden mekkojen normaalihinta vaihtelee 150-200 dollarin välillä, ja tämä mekko maksoi säälittävät 13 dollaria. Se istuu kuin hansikas ja laskeutuu kauniisti. Etuosassa on halkio, joka helpottaa lavalla kävelemistä korot jalassa. Mekkoa pitää vain vähän lyhentää (kyllä, olen 160-senttinen kääpiö) ja etusaumasta pitää ommella pieni repeämä. Jopa minä pystyn siihen, vaikka varsinainen käsityöihme en olekaan.

I found this swimsuit while I was waiting for my company to get ready to go. Here you need swimsuits all the time, so I just grabbed this without even trying it on. It´s everything I want in a swimsuit: the nautical style is totally me, and I love all the golden anchor details and the stripes. The back of the swimsuit is also really beautiful. I also checked the normal price for this – and they sell for $92 at Sperrys! I got this swimsuit for 9 dollars – and there is no damage.

Löysin tämän uimapuvun oikeastaan ihan vahingossa, kun odottelin seuralaistani palaavaksi sovituskopista. Täällä uimapuvut ovat lähes jokapäiväistä käyttötavaraa, joten nappasin tämän mukaan sovittamatta. Kaikki vain toimii loistavasti: merellinen tyyli sinivalkoraitoineen ja kultaisine yksityiskohtineen hivelee estetiikkaani, ja uimapuvun takaosa on myös todella kaunis. Tämän normaalihinta Sperryn nettisivuilla on 92 dollaria, ja maksoin tästä 9 dollaria, vaikka se oli ihan moitteettomassa kunnossa. 

 

These tops I bought for work – no, I don´t have a job yet, but this is one way to convince myself that I´m actually getting one! :) The white waterfall top goes well with pretty much anything, and the purple Michael Kors top is just irresistable. I actually have a matching cardigan from the same collection. The black cardigan was something that my mother-in-law found for me. It´s 100 % viscose and feels really light, yet warm. I feel like these are the kind of classics that I always wear.

Nämä paidat ostin työunivormuani täydentämään – no, eihän minulla vielä työpaikkaa ole, mutta tämä kai on alitajuista itsensä psyykkaamista, jotta saisin sen unelmieni työpaikan! :) Valkoinen waterfall-toppi käy oikeastaan kaiken kanssa, ja liila Michael Korsin toppi on yksinkertaisesti vastustamaton armeijatyylisine metalliyksityiskohtineen. Minulla on itse asiassa parin vuoden takaa toppiin täydellisesti sopiva Korsin neule. Musta lepakkohihainen neule taas oli anopin löytö. Se on 100 % viskoosia, ja tuntuu samaan aikaan kevyeltä ja silti lämpimältä. Nämä kaikki ovat oman vaatekaappini klassikoita, joita voisin käyttää melkein missä vaan.

 

This designer is my new favorite when it comes to shoes. Every time I find something that catches my eye at the shoe section, it´s always Franco Sarto. These are not only cute, but they also feel soooo comfortable! Sometimes I feel like I just need a couple extra inches to bring that final touch to my outfit – but nowadays I still want to be comfortable and prefer to leave the killer heels at home. I couldn´t choose between these colors so I just bought both. (First time ever.) The green satine ones bring that splash of color whereas the beige leather sandals go with anything. Kind of funny, I immediately thought of my dear, stylish mother-in-law when I saw these ones – and sure enough, she has the beige ones in her shoe collection! I guess I´m starting to know her style more than well.

Tämä suunnittelija on uusi suosikkini, kun puhutaan kengistä. Aina kun löydän tyyliini sopivat kengät, designer on lähes poikkeuksetta Franco Sarto. Nämä kengät eivät ole pelkästään suloiset, mutta ne ovat ennen kaikkea todella mukavat jalassa. Joskus tuntuu, että asu kaipaa juuri ne muutamat lisäsentit tuomaan ryhdikkyyttä – mutta nykyään arvostan myös mukavuutta ja jätän mieluummin ne korkeimmat killerikorot kotiin. En osannut päättää näiden kahden värin välillä, joten päädyin ostamaan molemmat. (Ensimmäinen kerta ikinä.) Vihreät satiinisandaalit tuovat ihanan väripilkahduksen asuun kuin asuun, kun taas beiget sopivat lähes kaikkeen. Aika hauskaa, nämä sandaalit toivat heti mieleeni ihanan ja tyylikkään anoppini – ja yllättäen, nuo beiget kengät löytyvätkin hänen kenkäkokoelmastaan. Taidan tuntea hänen makunsa paremmin kuin tiesinkään.

I also bought some wardrobe essentials, such as a strapless bra, leggings and some socks for my girls. So what did all this cost? I actually calculated how much everything would have costed at Nordstroms, and the result was shocking: close to $700. I seriously can´t believe it, I paid 80 dollars for everything, including those little items that I didn´t post here. I also left a lot of good brands at the store. For example, I found a top by Alexander Wang (the Creative Director of Balenciaga) for 10 bucks, but I decided not to buy it because his style is a little bit too edgy and rock´n´roll for me. Neither do I care if the shirt says Calvin Klein and the tag 5 bucks: if the material feels cheap, I don´t buy it. But especially the shoe and bag section is every woman´s heaven: they have brands like Jimmy Choo, Prada, Badgley&Mischa, Coach and Steve Madden for a fraction of the regular price. The only problem is finding your favorite style in your own size. 

Although… Now it seems that my customer loyalty now longer lays with Last Chance. The day after our shopping trip, they decided to raise their prices to 75 % of the retail price. I´m so bummed, now it doesn´t even make any sense to go there. I guarantee they are going to lose most of their customer base. I sure am going to boycott them until they realize that they made a huge mistake. So for now, this was my last chance at Last Chance! 

Ostin viime reissullani myös muutamia vaatekaapin perusjuttuja, kuten olkaimettomat rintsikat, legginssit ja sukkia lapsille. No mitä näistä sitten maksoin? Äsken surffailin Nordstomin ja muiden nettikauppojen sivuilla etsimässä löytöjeni normaalihintoja, ja loppusaldo oli aika shokeeraava: lähes 700 dollaria. En edes tajunnut, kuinka paljon tuolla käymällä säästää, sillä itse maksoin löydöistäni yhteensä 80 dollaria (about 60 euroa!). Enkä edes ostanut kaikkia ihanuuksia, joita löysin. Vaikka paidassa lukisi kuinka Calvin Klein ja lapussa 5 dollaria, jätän sen kauppaan, jos materiaali tuntuu lutrupuuvillalta. Löysin myös upean Alexander Wangin (Balenciagan uusi taiteellinen johtaja) topin, mutta jätin sen ostamatta, koska se on tyyliini vähän liian särmikäs. Kenkä- ja laukkuosasto on joka naisen tavarataivas: sieltä löytyy uskomattoman halvalla huippumerkkejä, kuten Jimmy Choo, Prada, Badgley&Mischa, Coach ja Steve Madden. Ainoa vaikeus on löytää suosikkinsa omassa koossa.

Mutta… Nyt alkaa näyttää siltä, etten enää jatkossa ole puljun lojaali asiakas. Shoppailureissuamme seuraavana päivänä Last Chance päätti jostain syystä nostaa hintojaan 75 prosenttiin ovh:sta. Takaan, että suurin osa vakiasiakkaista kaikkoaa. Itse ainakin aion boikotoida liikettä siihen asti, kunnes he tajuavat tehneensä ison virheen. Joten toistaiseksi, tämä taisi olla viimeinen tilaisuuteni Last Chancessa.
