Esittelyssä Aalto-yliopiston NÄYTÖS15 mielenkiintoisimmat mallistot. Nro.2 Akino Kurosawa
Seuraavana esittely vuorossa on Akino Kurosawa.
I am a Japanese fashion and textile designer, currently studying for my MA in fashion and clothing design at Aalto University. I am worked as an accessory and textile designer at giraffe (http://giraffe-tie.com/) in Tokyo for a while after completing a BA in textile design at Tama Art University in Tokyo, but later decided to go back to school to develop my design skills further.
NÄYTÖS15, Akino Kurosawa ”Winter melancholy”.
Photographer: Guillaume Roujas
This collection is my MA graduation work, the title is ”Winter melancholy”.
Here is the story behind my collection; Finnish winter made me depressed so much. In the Finnish winter, snow falls endlessly. Long-lasting darkness that I had never experienced before disturbed me emotionally. This experience of finnish endless snow and darkness, gave a strange impression to me. And then, melancholy filled my mind. Because I did not know how to survive in such endless darkness.
This unexpected experience has remained as the strongest impression during my four year life in Finland. And this was much stronger memory for me than the beautiful Finnish summer.
During the winter darkness, I was always longing for sunshine and beautiful skies that I have seen in the brighter Finnish seasons. Before the winter came, dramatic changes of skies in Finland fascinated me, and accidentally, these beautiful memories in my mind disturbed me mentally during the winter darkness. But this accidental experience somehow caught my attention and imagination rather than causing me to sink into sadness.

Silhouettes are inspired by unique accumulated forms of snow through the observation during Finnish winter. The textile design represents my longing for sky which I suffered throughout the winter. The fragmented repeats by tie-dye and the irregular drapes by needle-punching technique represent my mind drapes, unsettled and unstable mentalities.
This collection is the alternative reality of my mind. -Akino Kurosawa.
